Am pushing button monday and am wondering which caliber you prefer or have used and why that size rifle.Am going to use mine for hogs and probably yotes getting into chickens

.45 caliber (mine is a 909 with a tune) because it shoots plenty flat enough out to 60 yards for hunting, and .45 caliber makes a big hole/does a lot of damage to the animal. Has worked great for me on hogs, coyotes, bobcats etc.

.50 caliber tends to produce diminished returns, and ammo selection is very limited. Lots of .45 caliber stuff out there from light, to heavy. .357 sounds nice, but I prefer the bigger .45 overall especially if hogs are involved.

If you can swing it, I suggest the .45 Ranger. That's more of a 100yard .45 airgun.

Having owned a Ranger 45 for several months and tried numerous bullets in it, I have to concur with Butchers assesment.

There is so much more you can do with the added power and the accuracy this rifle provides.

You have three power levels, which only high and low are available or medium by itself, without taking the rifle from the stock, this gives me the option of round ball at 1050FPS or 400 grain bullets at 800 FPS.

With the Ranger you have the power and the accuracy for coyotes to elk out to 100 yards and beyond.

Good advice above.
You will want a convenient source for 4500 psi air to take full advantage of the Ranger if you go that route.
Actually, with the amount of air that .45 and .50 cal use, 4500 psi air is always nice, even if your gun only needs 3000.

No doubt about it LloydSS these things are airhogs.

Two days ago I shot 30 shots on low power, filled about every three shots to 3000 PSI and used 1500 PSI out of a 44cf 4500 PSI tank.

Again that was on low power.

I provide my air supply with a Shoebox, filling three 44 cf scba bottles that I cascade. At times I tether the rifle, because filling every two shots at the range getting tiring, when I do that I tether directly to the bottle, rather than thru a regulator like I do my AA S410 or my Condor 25.

My rifle works best at 4100 PSI, I get 812 FPS with 410 grains at this level, but only get two shots and each shot takes 650 PSI from the rifles air tube.

In the field, I fill from the cascade system until the pressure gets below 3800 PSI or so, then I use a booster pump to fill either my rifle or a Pygmy tank.

The Booster is a ram air pump, meaning that it diverts the air supply form the cascade system into two lines, one goes to running the ram and travels thru a regulator that takes it down to 100 PSI and the other line fills the Booster pump and the vessel being filled, ie the Ranger tank or a Pygmy tank.

When I cycle the valve on the Booster the ram compresses the higher PSI level, say 3000 PSI in example, and compresses it to up to 4500 PSI,or lower if you back off the toggle valve.

If you only have scuba and you are limited to 3000PSI and lower, the Booster can make your air supply last much longer.

I have more invested in the air management system than the rifle.

Like others said go. 45 I have a Haley qb conversion Being built approximately approximately 225 fpe with 5-7 shots per fill perfect for some nasty yotes. The ranger is a beast and so is the 909 plenty of options you have with a. 45 and a large array of ammo too

Ok thanks guys i just ordered a .45.The Rangers look awesome with much power too just can do the $ they are asking for it although im sure its worth every penny!Went ahead and ordered the 909.Should be here by end of the week!now another waiting game!

EPP/UG's are the first slug I would suggest for a 909......great go-to shooter, and hunter for anything smaller than a deer (though they have killed deer, and hogs as well). It's a fast super-lightweight slug that proves to be accurate in SamYang rifles far more often than not. Way more efficient than roundball, and usually cheaper too. I used the EPP/UG with success last fur season on both coyote (about 50 yards off) and bobcat (38 dedicated paces).....punched very neat .45caliber holes with plenty of penetration for coyote-sized animals. Other bigbore airgun hunters have killed deer and hogs with them. Though I would prefer a 200+grainer LFN/WFN for those 125-150+lb critters, IF the EPP/UG's were all I had to fall back on, I wouldn't hesitate to shoot a deer or non-monstrous hog with them if shot from a power-tuned 909/909S.

I have a lot of confidence in the EPP/UG's accuracy. If you do a search for EPP/UG's, you will find a lot of info on them. Mark Whyte (WhyteLeatherWorks) offers a 170 or so grainer called the .45Slim that I have shot .45inch@50yards off steady stix with.

Also try MaxiBalls, the Lee R.E.A.L. design, SureFire Raptors.....try all the light to medium weight .45ACP/.45Colt cast designs you can get your hands on....particularly the more .45acp-proven SWC profiles 200-230grains. BuffaloBulletCompany BP Pistol stuff is worth a try...the 180grainers shot well in mine and I always wanted to try the 190grainers but never did.....BHD's lighter "JR" WFN shot very well with the limited amount of them I have shot, and have a huge meplat for big game hunting.......if you can find some original hollowpoint #454424's those shoot very well in my own 909 as well when sized .456-.458 (I tried two alloys made from the same mold).

thats cool i almost ordered a 50 but the cost on ammo was just more then i wanted to pay right now.Plus i have a 45 black powder gun that i shoot balls with that are the same size for the air rifle.

Yes i already ordered it but it wont get here untill Saturday.thanks for info though as this gun will be a new learning experience.I was surprised how much air was already in it.It didnt look opened as it was stapled shut still and all wrapped up.Im already think .50 and maybe later a quakenbush later.Hes not too far from where i live and i here there awesome too!
