Can you post pics maybe or at least tell me what type of scope or dot site you have on your P-17?
Would really like to know how you pump / close it with a scope mounted on top.
Does it make pumping easier? Harder?
Has the scopes POI changed any after pumping and shooting for any length of time?

I was in a rush when I posted before, but I'll answer some of your questions from my experience. If you mount a red dot forward like I have, it doesn't hinder pumping at all. I have had this one mounted for 1000s of shots, and it's still holding zero.

I can see how a pistol scope could be used like a handle to close the pistol action. However since the scope base is plastic, over time it may deform. That said, it is a $35 pistol so go for it!! Dave

Yea I thought about that but really didn't want it messing with the scope or dot "zero" by using either of those two things for a pumping handle. Just curious as to what others have tried and or are still using on theirs.

 When adding a scope I use one of these rail adapters, it grips the plastic dovetail well enough to use the scope as a cocking handle.

I have reflex dot sights mounted all the way forward on two guns and a pistol scope on another, mounted directly on the rail (no adapter) which I use as a cocking handle but only pushing against the rings.  no pressure on the somewhat cantilevered bell at the rear of the scope.

I have 3 P17s with scopes on them and close the P17 with my hand on the scopes and have not had any problems.
The wide scope rings with 2 screws where the rings clamp the dovetail are best.
The gun seems to close a little easier with my hand on the scope.
The closing pressure can be reduced from 31 pounds to 25 pounds by drilling a 3/8 inch diameter hole 3/8 inch deep in the piston.
This will reduce the muzzle velocity from 410 to 365 fps.

I push closed using the top of my ultra dot red dot. Move your red dot back toward the grip, the force required to close will be less because of the leverage

I have owned two of these pistols since 2004, and from day one have used 1" tube red dot sights with cheap two piece mounting rings clamped to the rear of the dovetail.

I always cock the guns by grasping the red dot sights, and have encountered no problems with distortions of the dovetails, or wandering point of impact. They also are easier to cock with my sights mounted in this manner.

I believe I remember reading somewhere that you could further reduce the effort by taking the gun apart and cleaning all the factory grease off the piston and replacing it with something lighter weight. Think they said the factory stuff was super sticky and made cocking harder? Not really sure where I read that.
I never thought about just pushing down on the rings, that might work.

A relatively inexpensive red/green dot that I found on Amazon.

The red/green dot sight in this pic is of a slightly different brand, but they are all identical (from TChine-ahh). They work great considering the value of the pistol to begin with.











I also have the same sight mounted on my Zoraki HP01.

Same. I don’t remember if anything on their now. But when I had a red dot, it was mounted forward like that.

There was this guy making slide extenders for the P17, that made cocking much easier especially with a scope: https://www.airgunforum.ca/forums/topic76499.html , but I'm not sure he's still in business. That's just too bad, he seemed to have good reviews.
