How would they know the purchase price or the value? All they know is how much it was insured for.
Kinda like life insurance.. does your beneficiary get the full payout or just what the insurance company thinks your life was worth?
The item is not insured... the package is. They really have no idea what is in the package.

If the require substantiated value then it sounds like the require some proof of value at that point?

When I die my life insurance will probably argue I wasn't worth that much, LOL.

I paid the extra money to have the extra insurance place on the package. If said package is lost or stolen, you pay me the coverage that I paid for.
I refund the buyer his money and I recover my claimed loss.
Providing the shipper cannot produce the lost item.
That said.... there is fine print on everything in this World... it may be a good idea to read some of it.

So I guess as long as it isn't going through Customs where the actual value is known it would make sense that the "insured value" would/should be paid to the seller. Now as to whether the seller would pass on the whole amount or just refund the actual purchase price would vary depending on the sellers integrity.

AFAIK, if you are the shipper, you can insure it for the amount that you "declare" it to be. You pay a proportional amount for that declared value, and they have to honor that.

I recently sent two rifles to Hector, insured the package for $1000. I think it was all of about $15 and change for that insured amount.

It took far longer than the supposed 7 days for him to receive it (it was more like 21 days) but he did finally receive it.

Had it never arrived, I would have expected a check from USPS for that $1000. Thankfully it never got to that point.

I see these guys on the waterfront. They pull up with this big rig turned into a giant X-ray machine. They X-ray containers. The guys X-raying the containers are all kitted out like they are SWAT or military.

Really? Has their ever in the history of ever been a shootout on the waterfront? And if their was, it’s probably 10 square miles of area- do these guys realize the probability of it happening at the dock they are at being practically nonexistent?

CBP, no need to kit up until you guys are called upon to be strikebreakers again, OK?

Another time they opened a can next to me. They looked so proud of themselves that I thought they found stowaways or tons of drugs. Nope. It was a can full of ceramic coffee cups. I was like “who cares?” They said coffee cups weren’t on the manifest.

In their defense. The manifest had something else forgettable on it (shoes?lamps? Something like that).

They said when the goods don’t match the manifest sometimes it’s because of ripping off a trademark.

But when I saw the coffee cups I couldn’t help but think “What a waste of time and money.”

Maybe waiting for the person to come on shift that can verify it’s and AG and not a powder burner? Just a guess. Giving them the benefit of the doubt.

I have a lost package.

I ordered a bottle regulator for my Kratos from Altaros on 1-27, on 1-28 CZ post said they sent it abroad, as of 2-14 USPS has not received the item.  Altaros will check it after 3 weeks. Maybe the plane carrying it crashed, maybe the ship sunk, the trained dolphin swimming it acrossed came in heat, who knows.

In the meantime FedEx is the carrier for my Altaros Booster pump, hopefully they will not loose that one.

My Yong Heng spare parts never made it from US Customs to USPS so AliExpress refunded my money. I guess I'll reorder and try again.
