I have seen lots of information about the recently discontinued FWB Sport both good and not so good. I was just thinking I should purchase one but not so sure I want to spend 5 or 6 hundred dollars on a new out of the box air rifle  just to spend more money to tame the beast. Unfortunately knowing me I will find one either new or used at some point this year.

Looking back:
Based on everything I have read about this air rifle the .177 is much like the Beeman R1 in .177 more power/potential than what is needed in .177 caliber air rifle. Maybe FWB should have produced it as a .22 or even .20 caliber rifle for the US market.

I thought the very same thing. Too much for .177 and better served in .20/.22.
I dont plan to spend  a lot  of additional money on mine. I did add a new JM seal to an order for some spare parts, but for now, to seal is pretty solid in my gun. Minimal dieseling when switching pellets weights, and the spring remains unphazed thus far. Only thing i am going to do for the time being is maybe add a bit mor tar through the slot and shoot the snot out of it. I call it my HW35 treatment. And thats worked out very well so far. The Sport is a tough gun that demands a good break in period, but the more it is shot, the smoother it is getting,...at least in my experience.

Tsk, good to know that it has the potential to tame down on its own, I my still jump at getting one once I warm up to a little more.

I can't really say if our two Sports have calmed down with more shooting (and I have been shooting them) or if it's just me being used to them, now that I've shot them a lot. Either way, I do enjoy shooting them, recoil and all.

As for the Sport power level being too much in 177 cal, I can certainly understand that point of view. I'd would have loved to have seen an option for a Sport in 20 or 22 cal. That would have been very useful for some applications. Nevertheless, no one can claim that going 177 in the Sport has hurt accuracy. Far from it. Our two Sports in 177 equal our most accurate 177 HW and AA under lever springers. I have no regrets about the Sport being offered in 177. Absolutely, though, FWB might have sold more Sports had they offered a the Sport in 20 or 22 as well as 177. I think the biggest mistake FWB made with the Sport was that excessively high price at the outset.

It is good to know accuracy is not an issue and will keep that in mind as I ponder the sport.

Who knows maybe one day they would consider a Sport II (.22 cal). I know I would have moved swiftly to get one even at $600. One can always dream.

I went out back this afternoon and shot a half dozen CPHB's at a 30-yard target.  I am impressed with that 3/8" group.  Thursday, I'll shoot some more CPHP's and some 7.87 gr. AA's.  Stay tuned.
