ANOTHER Silencer Arrives - the MM1 "Production Version"

This just arrived in the mail, it is the finalized production model of the MM1 (Mystery Moderator 1) from the last silencer test of 14 different airgun LDCs here -

The body is machined from 6061 aluminum and black milspec HAIII hard anodized with matte bead blasted tube and polished end caps.

The front cap is engraved “AIRGUN USE ONLY” around the top, and “.177/.22 CAL.” around the bottom. The letters are machined directly into the metal, over which the anodizing was applied.

The rear cap features a short chamfer on the end that tapers down to match the diameter of an Akela shroud like it was made for it. In fact I think all my shrouded guns are about this diameter.

The unit is designed to be taken apart for cleaning/maintenance. Both caps have a ridge of angled knurling around the edge to make them easy to unscrew, and the internals just slide out.

The makers kept the length and width the same as the prototype, yet the internal volume was somehow increased slightly for improved silencing. Being that the prototype was already among the top 5 from the last test, this production model may be more effective from what I’ve seen.

There is no name stamped anywhere on it, so for the next test I guess I could call it the “A.U.O.” (for Airgun Use Only).
From the info provided, the estimated cost will be $70 or less.

I took a bunch of photos (see below), but cannot show the internals per GTA rules.

There is another airgun silencer test coming up (in fact I already began testing) and this unit will be compared with the 14 other silencers from before, plus several new ones that our members have graciously sent in. Total should be around 20 (twenty!) units.

This time I am shooting all of them through an un-baffled & un-shrouded  gun to see which units can best quiet the full air blast from a straight barrel PCP.

Thanks Ronald, it appears they are going to be made in the smaller calibers first to gauge acceptance,  with different models coming afterwards.

Randall, the unintended pun was actually spot on. 

If it performs anything like a DonnyFL then it will be a winner for sure at a sub-$70 cost.

Looks great. How is the accuracy? I bought a donnyfl sumo for my marauder  pistol and disappointed with the dramatic POI shift. It shoots 1 inch higher with the silencer on and its messing up with the ballistic softwares such as chairgun and strelok. I hope your new silencer performs much better.

I have found that group size  between most silencers remains about the same as stock, in other words most of the silencers tested did not degrade accuracy.

However, each time a Different silencer is put on, the POI naturally shifts, which would be the same as hanging a heavier - or lighter - weight on the end of the muzzle compared to stock. Even something the exact same weight but with different harmonics or pellet pathway could affect the POI.

The important thing is that the groups all stay the relatively same size, at least at 25 yards since that is the distance I test over (the limit of my small suburban property). I simply adjust the scope to reflect the new POI.

In the real world one wouldn't be swapping out different silencers over the course of a normal shooting day (unless one was testing 20 silencers).

However, there were one or two silencers tested that did create larger groups, sometimes wildly larger. This was due to their design construction which was comprised of multiple identical sections screwed together. Unscrewing and reassembling in a different order, and sometimes even in the same order, would also affect grouping as well as POI, so YMMV when using this type of unit. With these units it would probably be best to "set and forget" once you have it sighted in.

For obvious reasons my personal preference is for one solid tube instead of several shorter tubes all screwed together.

Strelok Pro (not ChairGun Mobile) allows you to add to each custom "rifle" a bunch of different "cartridges":

So, for my Skyhawk I have a "cartridge" I call JSB 15.89, and another for H&N Baracuda Hunter.

If my silencer gave me a different POI I would simply add another "cartridge" to my "rifle" and call it: "JSB 15.89 SUMO".

➔ To shot with or without the silencer just change the "cartridge" in Strelok and the app will make the necessary POI corrections so you're spot on. 👍🏼

Does this "cartridge" also allow windage offsets?  Not just for different wind drift, but zeroing corrections?

Strelok basically allows you — within one "rifle" — to switch between pellets ("cartridges") without making any changes to your zero.


🔶It works like this: 
(1) Open an new custom "rifle" and name it:
E.g.: "Skyhawk, Tune 07, Scope VT-3"Enter the scope data for it.


(2) Zero the gun with its favorite pellet, at your preferred zero range. I call it the universal (UNI) pellet.
Name the "cartridge":
E.g.: "UNI JSB 15.89 .217"


(3) Now, name another pellet for that gun:
E.g.: "Baracuda"
Shoot that pellet at the same zero range as the UNI pellet, without making any adjustments to the scope, shoot a different pellet and note the offset from your POA.
Enter the offset into Strelok for the "Baracuda."


(4) Now, when you want to switch pellets in your gun, simply switch the "cartridge" in Strelok, and the app will give you adjusted windage and elevation corrections for the pellet you chose.


(5) If you use quick detach mounts, you might even be able to switch the scope out (e.g., daylight and NV), with Strelok calculating the necessary adjustments just the same.
E.g.: "Baracuda: VT-3"
and
"Baracuda: ATN"
