Received two tins of Gamo RedFires ordered fromWalMart

I've been reading posts concerning the Gamo RedFire pellets and even though too expensive for MY use I ordered a couple tins to test. The two 150 count tins ended up costing $23.57 including shipping and NC sales tax. The order was placed 12/24 and received today 12/29 five days later.............


The first thin I did was to weigh the pellets after calibrating the scale.........


Next was measuring the pellet heads...........


Lastly, shot a few shots over the chrony.......
The velocity varied by 35fps from lowest to highest reading (835,852,839,870,857). That seemed "unusually extreme" so I then chronied a bunch of Air Arms Domes and there was only a 5fps variation with the same gun!

Then shooting a 6 shot Red fire group 18 yards I found that it didn't compare with a 5 shot Die "B" CPL group from my .177 HW95..........


The good, bad and ugly.
Good...........
Pellets were clean and packaged nicely
The pellet head sizes were very consistent
All pellets shot were snug fitting in my HW95 leade bordering on tight.
LOL....the RedFires cut nice crisp holes in 110# paper.

Bad..........
Pellet weights were all over the place. I weighed 1/3rd of the tin (50 pellets) and the weights varied from 7.60 grains to 7.98 grains (.38 grain difference).

Mediocre accuracy compared to the boxed CPLs or AA Domes from my .177 HW95, even at only 18 yards so I'm skeptical of accuracy even at a 30 yard "zero distance" or further.

The Red Fire isn't a good match for my HW95, perhaps it would be more accurate  from my loosed leade Beeman R9.

Matter of fact the red fires from Gamo did not come in a blister card package it was just the tins with a scotch tape to keep the lids from opening.

As soon as I picked up one out of the he box I could tell wow these are different then the ones I got from walmart just the other day.

Looks fit cleanliness lubed.  Fine pellets . Walmarts just looked run of the mill pellets from walmart.

The Gamo bought all fit the breech the same no loose or tight no loose tips.  They near looked like hand selected.

Oh,  and shooting them , like never a bad shot,  burr of the ear every squirrel.

Walmarts not even close . But sorted, washed and lined were fine in the selected ones.

Anyway nice review  and pretty close to what I get at walmart red fires.  Heck I think I even had 1 or 2  .177 in the .22 tin from the walmart bought ones   fall right through the breech out the muzzle and hit the ground..


I now wish I'd took some pictures of all that to show .


Oh,. One more thing to add .. the Gamo bought tins sticker on the bottom of the can was slightly different the the sticker of the walmart tins.  I may have the empty tins of so I'll snap a pic of the 2.

Then I may of hung them from a tree branch and shot'em full of holes ? 

I think like most companies they sell there stuff and then they got there stuff just for walmart to sell in walmart.  Gamo like most supply walmart with there not so first quality .

Best buy items are that way too.   If you were to check.

LOL....it does appear that the Gamo Red Fires ordered from WalMart are different than those sold directly from Gamo.
1st difference is that the WalMart RedFires come in 150 count tins and those on the Gamo site are supplied in 125 count tins. Another difference ordering from the Gamo web site is the $9.95 price, plus $15.00 shipping, plus $2.38 tax for a grand total of $27.33 for a SINGLE tin of pellets (about 21 cents each) vs  $23.57 including shipping and NC sales tax for two tins!

Please provide a link where you ordered your "real Gamo" pellets if possible!

I ordered directly from Gamo usa.  I add them to round out a order.

You know the lube felt like beeswax on them even the color of the lead was different.

Like I said as soon as I opened the box looked in the tins window lid it was instant these ain't like the walmart ones.. just the feel of the weight of the tin.  These were real live quality pellets...lol.

Now can't say the same for the Gamo hunter domed.   Talk about a tin of ransoms, man  if you sorted a tin of 200 you'd have 20 piles from one tin., Sad lol

Maybe it was some fluke, they were ordered during the hight of the shortage?   I just wish I'd of took the pictures.

Here's what I think...   Gamo ran out of red fires for u.s.a market. The pellets I got were sent from the e.u market pellets to cover the usa shortage. 

You know there not going to pay for the &^^& as we do here..   and maybe them walmart red fires are a walmart exclusive.   " Only at walmart" 😀

Can't say if you risked a gamo order if you got better or not I've not ordered any since. 

I was able to grab 2 bricks of crosman hp's  (12 tins)  and not looked back.


The grouping ain't bad if squirrel hunting out side the 2   and I shoot .22 only now to cut back on overhead.

Not to say to go buy any but I got good results from the gamo rockets.  I think there the same as what rws uses or from the same factory?  Rws power ball field line .177

I'll be glad when all this covid smooths over and these shortages are gone.

I haven't tried the Gamos but I have tried the poly mags, they ended up being accurate, but the weights when I measured them were all over the map.  I wonder if that is common with this style of pellet.  H & N also has a tipped pellet that looks similar, but its not available in the US.

I just got into the hobby of airgunning and can't believe people actually take the time to sort pallets. What is the point? Is there a particular  weight or size of head that just shoots better?

Some airguns prefer certain size and weight pellets, another name for it is "pellet pickey". It makes a big difference if you are shooting a match or hunting. Loading under or oversized, dirty, or bent skirt pellets can spell disaster real quick. It will look you shot the target with a shotgun.

I skipped over this thread since it started. Thought being,.. what serious air gunner would buy some gimmicky pellet,.. from Walmart no less. None the less, thank you for giving them a proper test!

I have not bought (or even looked at) pellets in quite awhile,... so I was shocked at the prices stated in the above post. 150/125 no less. I have old receipts/shippers from PA on past orders,.. so I may have to compare. Then again,.. maybe it is better that I don't.   

I did buy some Predator Metal Mags in .22 a few years ago. JSB's domes always did better by a lot. Some tips were loose in the can. I was shooting indoors with them one time and found tips on the floor between the bench and target box,... indicating that the tip fell out in mid flight.

Thank you again for the review and efforts to test them. You don't know,.. until you do.

Well like I said mine did not come in a "retail "  package they shipped them to me in 4 loose tins taped together with scotch tape so they would not spill open I guess?.

I still can't get any local but I'll check my next time out at Walmart . Still none available with in 50 miles (4 walmarts)

Like that one guy above said the price for count there not economical  unless your sorting just for hunting .   I did feel I got quicker clean instant kills on squirrel with them .  One shot and belly up's

What good is a pellet if it can't hut the target right lol. Yea I like these red fires and the h&n hornets very Nice but I can't shoot em in my magnum and expect to hit a bird. I can however shoot watermelons at 29 yards away and ill tell you what I'm amazed at the expansion results a pellet could do... I'll upload a screenshot of the full video tests.
