I have a Hawke Vantage and a Beeman RS2. I will not put the two together.The Vantage is not springer rated and the RS2 has a lot of double recoil, if not a magnum, it's a close second. A chancy combination for the long run imho.

I asked HAWKE USA and they told me all their scopes are OK on springers. i was inquiring about their Vantage 4-12x40ao scope.

Unfortunately the Vantage line is the only line we have that is NOT airgun rated. Any of our other lines should work just fine.

the above response from Hawke was this past November 2020.

anyways, i ended up buying said Vantage 4-12x40ao for my HW35e and later I might use it on a future springer, hopefully HW98.  Hope it holds up to those rifles.

Do realize that the 54...or even a FWB 300...doesn't really negate the scope's recoil, it isolates the shooter from the recoil.

Does seem to spread the forces out and help scopes live longer...but there is still a sudden acceleration backwards (on firing) and a sudden stop going onto the scope....just spread out over a longer time frame.

The 98s are heavier than the R9s and HW95s and HW95Ls.

Same machine inside but more METAL everywhere it matters like the BULL barrel.

My HW98s have two fixed and one "unfixed" mount: that unfixed mount is the HW98 .20 I got and dropped on the hardwood floor soon after getting it!  It wasn't off ever with whatever pellet in .20 I was shooting at the time, the 13s and the 15 grainers from JSB Exact.

I shot that rifle this morning but haven't yet progressed to the other TWO yet!

In all shooting with the HW98s I have found the "zone" for me who shoots only offhand because of physical limitation.

I love the HW98s!

However, consider getting the Diana ZR mount for ANY rifle of POWER and RECOIL because they will preserve the very scope you like no matter what the "shockproof" scale is for them.

I put a Swarovski Z3 years ago as the first scope on my HW95L .22 and never had to rezero or change a thing and that tells me it IS possible to buy a scope that CAN withstand HW95 recoil.

Add Leupold and Trijicon.  They can stay atop a hard recoiler and still function.

But my Bushnell Trophy 4-12X SA would not last so I put THAT inside Diana ZR mounts (thanks to Lizzie who bought and sent the mounts to me) on my HW95L .25 which shoots straight to date.

I have gotten into Hawke lately.

Let's see how these hold up!

The D54 Recoilless WILL kill scopes without the Diana ZR mounts.

Johnny, I would tell Hawke about your Vantage model (when you bought it, the dealer..) and ask directly about being airgun rated.

Always having in mind you should keep any scope model/brand within its 'comfort zone' when using on springers.

The Hawke will likely remain as a backup because I just CANNOT GET EXCITED about shooting a Beeman RS2. It's like a long date with an ugly girl that doesn't talk much but eats a lot chewing with her mouth open.
