Gil, no bobcats around our area of NW Indiana and we did get 10 bunnies in one hour, we'll be eating good!

The Vet walked into the room and said "so, this IS a 12 year old Great Dane, you're doing GOOD!"

He is a young Vet and said it was the first time he has seen a Great Dane as old as Hank.

My 200lb+ Newfoundland made it to 12yrs old and my 200lb+ Mastiff made it to 11yrs. 12yrs is the limit for huge dogs.

 Another rare thing is he is an intact male, I thought we would breed him sometime but never had the opportunity, I told my wife that is why he is doing so well, he is holding onto hope! LOL

 The Vet said his heart and lungs sound great, the only problem he has is some arthritis in his hips and spine and we have noticed muscle loss, especially in his hind quarters. He's not bad yet though, he still runs the hills when I let him out of the fenced yard.

 We are hoping he just goes out suddenly in his sleep when the time comes.

Up at 4:30 and headed for the coffee maker.
It's a chilly 30f this morning and only going to hit 44f. Some of you might thing that warm in comparison to your temps but the difference maker is the 71% humidity. 0% chance of rain, that's just the damp air typical of lower Alabama.
I need to round up some hardwood for the wood stove. I'm down to the old deadfall pine that is not the best to burn in the stove. It burns fast to ash and don't produce many coals. Best for outdoor fires. I have a few long logs but I need to cut and split them. That may become the plan for today.. at least I won't get hot and sweaty.

 Woke up at 4 had to run out and add wood to the boiler balmy 8f this am, much warmer than of late.  No real plans will figure today out as it goes. I did get a call from a fairly local gentleman that wants to drop off a Sheridan for a reseal, I may order a kit ahead of time, I usually keep one onhand.

It was 16 when I woke up, now 22 degrees.  The morning sun is belting the hillside with golden rays of warmth; hopefully the rime-ice will be gone soon and the sun can work its magic on the snow.

We get pretty amazing sunsets here on the regular; the snow and ice are making for some equally great sunrises.

As far as what I'm doing today- my 9-5... well, in my case, a 7:30-4.  We'll probably make a run out later- gotta take some trash to the transfer station, then likely go work out on the Total Gyms.  We've been doing some pretty intense workouts, and we're both seeing results already.

So much for shorts and flip flops this morning. Went from 72° to 34° in 24 hours. It's holding at 41° right now and blowing a gale, so the wind chill will be brutal. Pulled the satsumas off the tree last night, it was just a bucket full. The fruit will be juiced today and froze for later use. The navel and calamondin will be covered up tonight. Every thing else is already prepped for the cold. Hopefully this will be the only major winter blast we have this year. Not much to do outside with the wind chill in the 20's. Probably work on some fishing tackle, need some leaders made up.

Just came back in from cleaning the windows on the truck. Wind chill is 30f🥶🥶 and my hands are frozen.

Update...
Busted out the chain saw and picked out one of the long logs I have laying around the bottom of the fence line. Cut into splitter length logs and wagoned it to the North range shooting deck where I have the splitter.
Quartered the logs into woodstove food.
After the picture I hauled them into the shop and stacked them under the chop saw.
I have 3 or 4 more easy pickin' logs like this one scattered around the fence line.
Not sure what type wood it is but it's really tight hardwood and burns slow and hot.. I do know it's not pine.

Not much of anything. Went out and did my poop detail and I'm not going out again unless I have to. Wind chill is still at 32f. Winds been blowing 16-20 mph with gusts the the high 20s.

It is amazing!
Went pheasant hunting on New Years Eve.. 34f in the pouring rain!..it  kept me warm an dry from the torso to my neck!
  Most of my stuff is "Real Tree, Edge"... It fits in well here most of the year.

I also have my 1980's (pre-digital) military issued to me "Salt and Pepper's" for winter.
Time to break them out here!

Dan that's good. Both my dogs went downhill fast with the least amount of suffering thankfully. The Newf had a heart attack. The Mastiff had to be put down due to hip dysplasia and not being able to kneel and poop. A kidney stone was killing me so I had to get help to load him in the van then all I could do was drive him to the vet. I wasn't able to get out of the seat to say my goodbyes as I was in such pain feeling like I'd just been stabbed. He barked at the vet which then made him put a mask on the dog and a tech to hold his head away from the vet to prevent a bite which I did not care for at all but he's at peace now.

Gate stopped opening in the cold where I had to get out and manually open it. Turns out there was battery corrosion on the positive terminal gator clip so slapped a new one on there and works like a charm again. Got a commercial 7500lumen LED light for my mother's garage to upgrade from a single bulb fixture but it wouldn't mount the fixture straight so I had to buy an adapter plate which will allow that. I'll install the light hopefully without any more issues.

The rest of the lights are due to arrive tomorrow for the barn. I'll be on a 24" extension ladder hanging 9 4 footers tomorrow.
Just gonna take my time... ain't in no hurry.
Nick is planning an enclosed loft in the back 20' of the barn so I'm hanging 3 lights on each of the front 3 trusses.

Definitely not the plan. I'm gonna have Betty Lou hold the ladder. Little does she know her main job is to break my fall.

I looked it up and you could very well be right. It has all the symptoms... easy to split and burns clean and hot. If that is what it is, we got an ashload of it here. 
Matter of fact, if it's the same as that post I used on the shooting deck that you see in the picture.
