In the 70s, a person only had to have a regular drivers license to apply for a 'chauffeur's license'.  So I went to the Drivers License place and got what was later referred to as a 'CDL'.  The company had an old MACK that had two shift sticks.  One of the sticks was for shifting the Reverse and the five forward speeds.  The other shift stick was used to select one of the three speeds.  Back then, I knew the name of that setup - but my memory buck filled up with other stuff and overflowed.

I got my CDL in ‘92.  I drove trucks for nearly 7 years until I got into the Line apprenticeship in ‘99.  A CDL is a requirement for my job.

This is the last tractor I drove while I was a driver.

Matt I'm guessing no one around got some of your tire in their windshield? Is my main fear driving by semis. Even if I'm ahead of one just the explosion behind me could scare me into the ditch. They sound like a canon going off for sure.

Back in the day I moved to the coal mining area of Virginia. I went in to get my Va. driver's license and asked what I needed to get the CDL. The lady asked if I had 5000 hours behind the wheel of a truck. I told her yes and it cost an extra $5. It was just called a chauffer's license back then. No test was required.
When they went to the CDL I was grandfathered in.

My truck driving adventure started with a chauffer's license, I went a year or so with it after I missed being grandfathered in. Picked up my Class B when I went to work for FDOT and later my Class A with forestry. I will keep it for a while because I do rent heavy equipment every now and then.

As for plans, just work in the yard, still waiting on the power company to show and fix their mess. Finish assembling the chicken pen and get the cover on it. Just take the day as it comes.

Not sure what the plan is for today... lots of irons in the fire but just need to pick one up and hammer on it.
I want to sheet in the short wall in the bar where the flat screen hangs and build a shelf under the tv for the 700 watt sound system. Then I want to hang the speakers in the 4 corners of the room and run/hide the wires.
Betty Lou wants to continue painting but I don't see the good in that until all the wood work is done and we can paint it all at once.
As with most projects, plans for fine tuning change as things progress.

Might just drink beer and don't do nothing.

I have to get the deck painted today. Wife kept diverting me to other things or I just plain didn't want to do it at the time. Weather is really going to turn cold next week. There's even a 20% chance of rain/snow showers Tuesday. It was 39f when I got up at 0700 this morning. Probably will be transferring flowers into pots so they can go into the garage when it's too cold.

Good morning GTA! Happy Fri… dang, it’s only Thursday… I got up at 0500. I’m doing another Academy Sports and the last time I was here was in 2011… when the units were 1 year old and I was 40. 🤪

Yesterday I probably pushed myself a little to far with all the mowing, leaf raking and misc yardwork.     I'll take it easy today.   I have a 10M pistol match in a few hours and I don't want shoot when I'm tired.   Maybe I'll rake a few leaves when I come home from the match.   Right now, after filling up on chili-cheese-omelets, I just want a nap.

Doing the work thang today.  I’m hoping to skate out early and get the water heater relocated so I can continue to expose the subfloor for damage inspection.  I’m off for the next 5 days starting tomorrow!  I just realized that actually.  Just been busy I guess.  We have a play to go to tonight (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) so I’m really looking forward to that.  Tomorrow I’ll play pool with Pops and hopefully my mom will feel ok and be awake when I’m there so I can visit with her too.  Saturday is a special date.  Mrs P and I will have been married 33 years on the 26th.  We are leaving in the morning and spending the entire day together!  No real plan other than dinner reservations.  What we do will be weather dependent of course.

Another run to Troy today..
Betty Lou dropped and broke her vape smoker yesterday so we need to get her a new one. We had a bag of RYO left over from when we smoked cigarettes and she rolled some of those but it made her sick in the stomach. The smell from them was awful. I don't miss smoking cigarettes at all.
Also another trip to Lowes for some expanding foam and some trim for the door I hung in the bar.
