I'm about to go S&R the monster's today is the small ones awakening day! I have cake and toys waiting for him. Then later tonight it will be off to my nephews graduation party.

I've already coated my arms and exposed skin for being outside this morning preparing
for the onslaught of mosquitoes.

I'm going to keep sanding the finish on the stock increasing the grit and smoothing it
as I go. A wet sand will be the final step before the Tru-Oil.

Ron this is what I use in the yard and in the deer stand. They work! I have several of them. The first one on the page is what I use. They are well worth the money. A lot easier on the skin and clothes.

Whether is gray and wet.  At least it’s not too cool and everything is green (unlike winter).  Woke up 0715, stayed cozy with Mrs. P, out of bed 0800.  Made cappuccino and ate twice baked croissants.  While I was at work yesterday, Mrs. P and C were headed to TSC and my beloved 2000 Toyota Tacoma (345,000 miles on it) popped a spark plug! 😕.  I’ll have to go retrieve it out of a parking lot or try and get it fired up and drive it home.  I hope it’s not too serious.  I’m not a mechanic and never really had much interest in being one.  I’ll have to pay someone if I can’t figure it out myself.  I’ll at least get it home (drive or tow) and go from there.

How did you use the soap?

I would bath with it before I went to work.  I also use scent away or down wind deodorant.  The key thing also is not wear anything that has a perfume, aftershave, perfume, soap and shampoo with heavy perfume in it, deodorant and antiperspirant with perfume.Another words you don't want to smell sweet because that is a dinner bell to a mosquito. It sounds crazy but does work.

I used to take garlic pills and thought they worked until they proved not to in my case and I took a lot of them. I use grampa guss's skeeter repellent with natural oils that works pretty well but I have to spray myself real good with it or I'll get tagged.

George Washington Sears always said that a good insect repellent shouldn't be washed off.  Several days applications were necessary to build up what he called a good glaze.  During the height of the bug season around here we don't bath a whole lot.

This afternoon I had swarms of Dragon Flys in the yard eating swarms of mosquitos.  That's Very GOOD ! 
Right at dusk I laid down an intense layer of insect fog. It looked like my house was on fire.
I also have a Thermocell repeller that I use when I am out.
I will fog again early next morning.
The mosquito war continues.

I got one mosquito bite while I was in Missouri at my son's house a week and a half ago. They were swarming pretty thick but left me alone mostly, which was a first for me. 

Here in So Cal I hardly ever see mosquitos as long as I make sure there is no standing water around, which is usually easy to do here, as soon as we het hot temps with very low humidity bugs are only an issue for a few hours a day. It seems occasionally we get some rare winds that will blow some over here from Diamond valley Lake, but they don't hang around long.

 Our 10 day forecast looks great!

The skeeters here are down right friendly. . . . . . .  Compared to the yellow flies, Deer flies, and sand nats (no seeums or punkies you might call them up north.).  I wear a bug shirt and head veil a lot just to avoid wearing too much toxic goop.  Smearing poison all over your body regularly can’t be good for you.

I leave buckets of water in shady areas near my house.   Mosquitos lay their eggs in them.   I check the buckets and when the larvae wigglers look like they are getting ready to turn into mosquitos,  I dump the buckets and larvae out.   I've been doing this for years and the mosquito population is way down around the house.   If you forget to dump out the buckets and all the wigglers hatch, you really screwed up by breeding more mosquitos.

This!  I too create enticing "brood spots" then dump the containers once I see the wigglers. 

Skeeters generally will bite me only after every other food source has been drained.  My concern is ticks and biting flies.  The flies don't fare very well since the fly-eating birds are sure to follow, but as the weather warms, the field get cuts more often and I limb all the trees around up to 6-8 feet.  Doing so robs the roosting opportunity from many biting bugs.  And shortly the James River will be swarming with mosquito hawks (crane flies) and dragonflies/damselflies.  I've got a few pictures of our floating the river and nearly every exposed spot on our kayaks, paddles, hats, cooler etc has a dragonfly perched and waiting.  We love it!

Now the ticks?  Man, I rank them somewhere below yellowjackets and biting flies when it comes to Ma Nature.  Biting flies are a legit part of the food chain, despite how nasty they are.  Yellow jackets are voracious carrion eaters, so they have a legit spot despite being the biggest arseholes on the planet.  But ticks?  Nope, nothing.  Simply an evolutionary mistake and I wish they were genetically modified into extinction.


Anyway, plans for today are shuffling some airguns from cases to locker, organizing some pellets and slugs for easier access, maybe building a frame for my wife's great-great Oma's mirror.. but mainly, just relaxing.
