Yeah, the area I'm working on is pretty thick. No sun hits the ground and these trees have been dropping leaves for years. We're just going to thin it out. We basically lost all the open grass part of the property when the bar sold. That entire acre was open grass. As it is now, I can mow the remaining grass with a weed eater..   
Besides.. the snakes love the cover and we need to do something about that.

Road trip to deal with more retirement stuff, pick up some tools from china freight, some fertilizer and irrigation supplies for the garden, and find some fishing hooks without having to order them.  The come home and crash, I hate shopping to some extent and the funny part about it I use to do a lot of window shopping for a past time, not now with the way things are these days. Sign of the times.

It was very stormy, in my part of Minnesota, yesterday and last night.
Starting at around 3 pm, the thunderstorms just kept rolling thru one after another until around 12:00 Midnight.
Lot's of lightning... but fortunately.... no Tornadoes.
I got anywhere from 3 to 7 inches of rain.

I went to my local barber shop this morning and got a haircut.
This is a real old time barber shop, straight out of the 1950's.

I plan on going over to my daughter's place this morning, for a while, to help her out with some cleaning.
After I get back home I'll be doing yard work today.

Not as hot today, maybe 89F and 60% humidity.
Yesterday it got up to around 98 F - 100 F and the humidity was absolutely tropical.

I completed my main plan not involving work: mowing part of the ballfield across from my house.  It keeps rodents down and also curbs potential tick habitats.

No other plans set in stone.  I may throw a pork roast on the smoker (mission accomplished!), and I may spend lunch tinkering with that freebie generator I was gifted.


Edit- roast is on the smoker now.  Mostly a beer-mustard coating with black pepper/garlic rub.  Wrapped it in paper, will pull once it hits the plateau at 160-ish, then I'll unwrap, coat with High Country rub, and finish... pull at 203.

Bill smart move and you'll love it opened up too. I'd drop every tree in my yards if I could. No limbs and leaves to pick up. No acorns to attract hogs and other pests. No risk of tree or limbs falling on home or fence. If I want shade I can go on the back porch or in the woods. The grass isn't growing fast anyway due to no rain the past week or so and I'm fine with that since is less mowing and weed eating for me.

It's overcast here and the heat has abated some.  My younger brother who I have a contentious relationship with dropped by to see mom today and we chatted briefly.  I was able to to slyly produce the Crosman Slimline 1400 I had procured from a member here.  "That's not your old 1400 is it it" he stammered as he reached for it.  "Nope" I reassured him.  "It's a replacement."  When my brother was twelve he shot his best friend in the leg with MY Crosman 1400!  The wrath of all the parents involved came down on me.  The offending "BB gun" must be disposed of.  I was able to strip a few items like the barrel and the valve off before it had to go in the trash.  Some of those parts live on today in my other 1400's.  So bringing out the new Slimline was a little teasing of my brother.  He's a good sport about it.  We tried a few shots through it for nostalgia's sake but the sights are just as bad as they were forty years ago.

Whew, got out at 6:30 this morning trying to beat the heat. We ended up getting on a roll and not wanting to stop. We just now got to a stopping point where the dogs are secured in the fenced area. I still have about 50 sq. yds of space I want to add but that will wait until this weather breaks... unless I get the urge.
Grabbed a hot shower then turned on the cold to cool my body down. Had Betty Lou check and she pulled 2 ticks off me.
Time to grab something to eat and chill.

About the ticks Bill did you spray your boots and pants legs with off spray? I've been told critters won't crawl up or into your pants that way. Any time I had ticks on me I did not spray that beforehand so maybe that's indeed true.

No, most of the area we were working in was grassy. I think I got them when I hopped on the mower to knock down some taller weedy stuff. We always check each other after working outside and a hot shower.

Up at 5:45 this morning.

"Today's temperature is forecast to be MUCH COOLER than yesterday." and only get to 104°F, then 102°F tomorrow then mid 90's Monday-Thursday, I hope so, that would be nice, but am not going to hold my breath.

I plan to take it easy today and finish preparing for Ch**ch tomorrow too. The Church decided to start Sunday morning services at 8:30 AM for the next three or four months, so the morning service will be over before 11:00 AM when the temp is a bit lower so the old folks can get home before it hits peak blast furnace.

It is already 74°F on my back deck at 6:38 AM, we'll see....

Going to be heading home at around 5pm. Thought I was suppose to pet sit until tomorrow night but I was wrong. That's okay seeings as we're suppose to get hammered with monsoon rain most of tomorrow it'll keep my truck from all that mudd.👍

We've been up and have completed our project for this day. With the help of our neighbor and his son, Martha and I assembled the Mobility Scooter rack and mounted it on the truck.  I definitely have to practice loading and unloading it, but it's too hot stay outside any longer than we did.

Good afternoon, GTA! I got up around 0600. I got the mowing and trimming done yesterday, but never got around to cleaning out the garage and putting my van back in order. I got the garage & van done today, wife’s car is back in the garage. My wife & I cleaned the pool, vacuumed & scrubbed. It’s 96* outside and the pool water is 86*. Probably gonna go jump in it again. It’s supposed to get hotter this week up until next weekend.

That's a nice temp John. Mine is 92 so I'd rather it be cooler but that will come soon enough. I can always add ice if I really want it cooler.

95* here now, been staying out of it in the middle of the day. This heat keeps up much longer and the garden will be toast. Been working on rebuilding lures, some need hooks, blades cleaned up, repainted, and some just need to be totally rebuilt from the ground up. Most of the lures are rooter tails, beetle spins, pony head spinner jigs, and little george tail spinners. I have molds to cast the spinner bodies and jig heads but it has be so hot outside to even fire up the lead pot. Not set up for indoor operations yet.

I'm SO glad that we upgraded our pool this season.  It's refreshing and therapeutic in the water.

Good morning GTA! Happy Sunday! I initially woke up at 0500 and started the coffee. Dozed off and on and got up at 0600. I had my first cup o’Joe and skimmed the pool and changed out the filter. I’m on my second cup and I’ll get ready for Ch**ch. I missed going the past 2 weeks.

Gil, 92* might be considered too warm by some, but it’d sure feel good on my bones and muscles. The warmest we’ve had it is 90* pool water. Brett, this pool sure is refreshing and therapeutic for me too. I’m hoping for a bigger, permanent pool for next year. I have some ideas, and I’ll need to rebuild our back deck too, which I really need to do anyway. I’m thinking I’ll leave this pool up this year, just in case. We’ll just have to wait & see. Main idea is a semi-in ground pool to level it out, the ground slopes down from the back deck. It’d be nice to not lose sight by having a raised pool higher than the deck. Right now, our local pool company has a 28’x52” pool available, installed. I might even let them maintain it, if I can afford it. I have a friend that works for them in Ft. Smith, but I haven’t seen him in awhile. My wife has talked to the local store for advice since last year and they’ve been super helpful, even though we’ve not been a customer yet.

I know a guy that buried lines in the ground and cycles water through them into his pool.
