Mornin Y'all!  Starting the second week of my vacation.  I'm gonna just sit in my garden for a while.  The Bream are bedding.  The Catfish fingerlings are up to about 6 or 7 inches long now.  Ought to be good fishing back at my ponds.  It's still cool enough to drop some crab pots in the bay.  Turkey season is over.
This time of year the 21st century hunter gatherer shifts more to the gathering aspect!

I spent two hours at the Conservation Club with some fellow shooters cleaning out brush, shrubs and some trees at the pistol/rifle range. All the way to the 100 yard targets.
Big ol' pile of burning material... Bad news, there's a burn ban because of the warm stretch we've had.

Good morning GTA! Happy Monday! I slept in until 0530. I don’t have a job on me for today, but I did wind up going to work the past 2 days on call. I’m having coffee and reading and I’ll have to call in at 0800 to find out what’s in store for the day.

Having coffee now.  Need to eat something then I'll plan on digging some holes for the footers for the gazebo we recently put together.  Still have some sod rolled up that needs to be relocated too.  I hope the weather holds dry so I can shoot today.

1st sanding on the Den wall joints and screw areas then a fine finish coat of mud to smear around.
Have a small area on the floor to chip out and then start the prep work to level that area up with some patch.
Also gonna get the wall mount for the TV removed from the basement and located on the Den wall.

Been to the bank, post office, grocery store and the hardware already this morning.

Betty Lou has a crock pot full of BBQ drummies on.. gonna be dee to the liciious.
She also bought some Wonder Bread thick BBQ bread for soppin' up the goodness.
She's gonna do a big ole pot of her double thick and creamy mac and cheese.

Meanwhile.. I got some screws for a mod on my LEE casting pot but that's a story for another thread.

Up at daylight, garden rounds, cook veggies, load dirt into nursery pots and plant seedlings, surveyed the rat damage on the truck, the little monster chopped one wire right at the firewall, just another aggravation to fix, pick up the mail, all the lawn toy parts are in so that will be ion this weeks repairs to do list.

I have been up since about 6:00 and did my Taxes today. My bank account decreased a bit.  Now I am currently waiting for directions on filing as a trustee for the lady that left me as her trustee.

Whatcha planting?

Squash, tomatoes, beets, cabbage, brussel sprouts. They are seedlings that I started earlier in the year. Turnips, strawberries, red potatoes, loose leaf lettuce, moringa, are in full swing. Pulled my mustards they were starting to bolt just to hot for them. Will start carrots, diakon radish, black eyed peas, patty pan squash, gourds, nasturtiums, okra, and anything else I can find space for.  I have sun chokes I ordered off ebay, I have to definitely confine them or they will run wild. They spread fast but they taste so good. I have about 50 25 gal nursery pots that I am trying to get off the ground so they don't flood, deal with poison ivy and privet roots, or keep the fire ants from moving into them. Still clearing out places to put all this stuff down and not drag water hose all over the place, I do have timer and misters to go with the pots. I will have plenty of fruit later on just no citrus this year. I have black berries, blue berries, straw berries, persimmon, grapes domestic and wild, and pears. Now that I am not working, I can put effort into a garden and it is already starting to show and fill the freezer.

Supposed to climb into the 80's for the next few days. Dogs got me up at 5, as usual. Rambo was extra persistent this morning. He went into full bark mode.
Got my coffee and I'm gonna slip out to the Red Shed and fire up the casting pot and mold warmer.
We went to war with the fire ants and powdered several hot spots. I want to walk thee property and see how that's going.
I had never done it before and not sure what to expect. This is the product we used.

Bill, have you ever tried Diatomaceous Earth? I  Keep a 10 lb of food grade around as it has many uses.

No, the Martin's was the first product we've tried. It was highly recommended by the guy at our local co-op.

Baking soda, borax powder mixed with powdered sugar, ash from burning, vinegar, diatomaceous earth, and Terro is what I use because of the chickens. Hit the mounds at hi noon when the ants have the queen and larva at the top of the mound for warmth. The Terro is liquid or flake, they feed on it and carry it back to the others to feed them. It takes about 2 to 3 days to wipe out the mound. I use the liquid and a soda cap full does the trick on them. They will flock to this stuff for 24 hours after that they are all dead and gone. I have been using this stuff 15 years now and nothing else.

Just got back from Phoenix. Picked-up a camp trailer that a friend of my wife's gave us. It's about 10 years old and in pretty good shape. Just needs a new awning, sky light in the be bathroom and a reseal of the roof. Of course it's way more windy than it's been for the last week. Got to clean it up some but not bad. Had to buy new tires as the ones on it were 10 years old and the originals.

What about flies any of you boys have good luck with a favorite fly trap that works great? I have a lot this year more than ever. I can kill 100 a day without even being able to tell the next day it's ridiculous. My pest controller will eventually arrive with fly poison when he gets it but I'd be open to trying something in the mean time.
