Good morning GTA! Happy Wednesday! I had an allergic fit yesterday… Spring has sprung around here. I don’t usually have problems, but last night was bad. I got up just before 0600, walked Chillie and had coffee. I’m at work, but the boss is calling for a phone conference service meeting at 0900. I have 3 jobs on me for today already. Next week, my help should be back in the state.

I40 is closed AGAIN! Won't be able to go anywhere.😡😡 There's only a dusting amount of snow on the ground.

Good mornin' to all the allergy and asthma suffers out there. Yep, it's mold, pollen, dust season again. I've had my fair share of the "spring cough" here. Pine, oak, ti ti (pronounced like tie tie), and anything else that wreaks havoc on the immune system has created a few sleepless nights lately. Messed around in the garden this morning, now in the process of feeding the zoo, later break out the new 20lb melter and cast some ammo for a few guns. Need to cast some jigs as well. Clean up and repair the crab traps. Just another exciting day on the retirement frontier.

typical morning around here.
Up at 5am, fed and let the dogs out while the coffee maker was doing it's thing.
Got coffee and sat down to browse the news/weather, the bank and GTA while I pondered the day.
After Betty Lou got up I checked with her plans for the day, nothing on her radar so I headed out to the shop.
I ran a string over the chrono with her gun that I had been tinkering on for the past couple days.. it's done and awaiting her approval.
After some breakfast I'll find something else to get into.. I'm sure it will be airgun related.

I was awake at 3:51 AM, I stayed in bed until 4:24 and then knew I might as well get up.

Put the trash and recycle cans out to the road yesterday afternoon so I would not have to this morning in the rain.

It's another rainy day but after 4:00 PM we are supposed to have at least a 9 day break for rain, we'll see about that. 

I have some bills to pay and things to do in town today and then Ch**ch at 5:00 PM

working til 5 today... Still in recovery mode after spending the majority of the weekend working on thje property running a Vermeer woodchipper. 

Over the last 2 years, Sonja and I have spent many weekends taking down trees, clearing underbrush, removing limbs, killing poison ivy/oak/sumac, and reducing the size of numerous greenbriar brambles.  Ther end result was a dozen or so piles of brush, limbs, and smaller tree trunks covering sycamore, hickory, black walnut, osage, locust, red cedar, some holly, and the aforementioned poison stuff.  We spent the weekend reducing all those piles to chips, including spreading them around for faster decomposition.  Each pile was about the size of a Chevy Suburban, sometimes longer, but 6 feet tall and slightly wider).  My hands and arms are riddled with flesh wounds from splinters and thorns despite wearing kevlar "sleeves" and heavy leather gauntlets... But we finished all the piles OUTSIDE the woods.  We still have a half dozen smaller piles in the woods, but those are mostly larger diameter logs and limbs that are worth keeping for fencing, bow-making, and even running through a joiner-planer to make dimensional lumber.

I also bought a new "toy"- an 02 Ram 1500 with a near-mint body/chassis (AZ or CA car?) with some savings I've been setting aside- so instead of His and Hers Leshiy 2s, I bought a truck   It needs a few minor things- heater core has a pinhole leak, in-tank pumps is weak and the sending unit is broken, and the fan clutch is intermittent.  While I was intending to do those, Sonja decided my time is worth more, so it is at the shop getting the work done.  And to be honest, I'm not sure my hands are up to any serious wrenching for the next week or so- I haven't been this sore since several day-long surf sessions in a row the Winter of 02/03.

Ironically just yesterday we watched an episode of Homestead Rescue.
They were called to a small homestead in Hawaii with a creek running through it.
The creek came from out of the mountains and during the rainy season they had flash floods.
Your picture reminded me of how the flash floods began... it was shortly follow by a 6' wall of water.

They were called to a small homestead in Hawaii with a creek running through it.
The creek came from out of the mountains and during the rainy season they had flash floods.
Your picture reminded me of how the flash floods began... it was shortly follow by a 6' wall of water.
 

WE have had the runoff almost go over the driveway before, That is a LOT of water to get that high and overwhelm the 18" culvert first too.  When that happened it left a gorge behind.

I'm sure that show was scripted to a point but I doubt they could script the flood video that came past that house.

This afternoon I had to go to town, while in town it snowed for 45 minutes. It was not sticking for the first 30 minutes then did the last 15 minutes. After it quit coming down the sun peaked though and there was a rapid melt off.


This is what one weather site said.
"A band of precipitation associated with a cold gust front swept across the inland valleys Wednesday afternoon, sending temperatures plummeting into the 30s in many areas and changing forms of precipitation.

Graupel, as well as rain mixed with snow, fell at elevations as low as 1,000 feet above sea level Wednesday afternoon. Both quickly melted in sun-exposed surfaces after the band of precipitation passed, however it remained on the ground for longer in shaded locations. Extensive snow was also seen coating all mountain ranges down to around 3,000 feet Wednesday, with particularly heavy accumulations above 5,000 feet."

Here is a video someone else shot of it, and a picture I took as I left the drug store shortly after it quit. It was thicker in spots. This is very unusual here in March!

The weather has been a bit crazy as of late.  I've had 65 and 70 degree days in the last month while working on our property but due to northerly winds, it felt like the low 40s... other days it never broke 50 degrees but between the sun and lack of wind, we "showered" with our 42* wellwater and still felt warmer.

Today's another workday... fuel interfaces, data conversions, and probably more meetings than I have any care to join.  Hopefully my truck is ready, but it isn't like I need it since I telecommute.  I'm sure my lunch will be spent sharpening some chainsaw chains, though I have one that is likely getting a final sharpening.  I tell you what, narrow chains just don't have the longevity of gasser chains. 

After work I may do some more drywall/skimcoating on our hallway.  I removed ceiling tiles and the pancake sized dollops of over-cured construction adhesive a couple weeks ago and the ensuing patching, stripping, and cleaning have been both frustrating and rewarding.  Our home was once a fishing cabin on a lake and was added on multiple times- and it shows once you start looking.

We will be hovering at 80 and above for at least the next 10 days... tonight is the best chance for rain. though not as severe as they were predicting recently.
It will be all about airguns today. At least that's my plan..

Already tackled some part of the yard this morning, dog fennel was the target plant for destruction. That plant is a pain to remove and it will overrun your yard in a hurry.  Fed the zoo, fed me, and finish up the wood working mess I have in the shop or cast some ammo/jigs if the weather cooperates later today. Taking the day as it comes.
