That’s true, Rick… I’ve spent time in S. Korea and a little in Japan. Most, especially ladies, cover up from the sun- white gloves in the summer, even. Us knuckleheads, well… I remember my Mom and her generation and the first half of my generation using baby-oil to soak in as much sun as possible… might as well have used cooking oil. 

Yep!! That's why I've had 2 surgeries to remove skin cancer but they were only basal cell so really nothing. Use to spend so much time with no shirt in the sun and get sun burned the start of every summer.

Good morning all been awake since just before 5:00 got up just before 6:00 though.
Yesterday my wife and I decided to wait until today to go for a motorcycle ride, so that will be later on. I have a few things I want/need to take care of outside first. It's 46°F in the area and 54°F on my back deck. It is suppose to get to 81° today, nice! Our 10 day forecast shows some rain every day for the next 9 days.

 I worked indoors for 42 years so I did not get as much sun as a lot of people did. I have had quite a few sunburns but I do tan naturally without oil. I have only used sunblock probably 20 times in my life, I usually don't think about it.
 Back in the 70's my dad got very buff and tanned I remember him laying out in the backyard oiled up. He looked like a body builder and when he came to my high school for something once there was a lot of talk about "WOW who's the body builder", and everyone was surprised that it was my dad. I was skinny back then.
 I never spent any time trying to tan myself, I just never tried to avoid the sun either. My  skin is still in pretty good shape. I think what makes me look older is my mostly gray facial hair, but I don't care about looking younger enough to save everyday.

Mornin y’all.  On the subject of daughters and foreign country’s, we are off to deliver the Iron Maiden to the airport today.  She has decided to move to Brazil and marry some guy she met on line.

She has been trying to join a cult for several years but so far we have managed to thwart her.  I support her financially and I just turn off the money if she gets too crazy.  As crazy as she is she still prefers air conditioning and internet access to living on the street so we’ve at least had that much control of her lifestyle. 

But she says she has met a rich man in Brazil and she is going to live with him.  Pretty sure she’s about to get her organs harvested and end up in a shallow grave.

She’s 29 and smart enough to fool the psychiatrist so there’s nothing we can do.

I am numb.  After 25 years of dealing with her mental illness I am burned out.  If I never see her or hear from her again I don’t care.  But my wife is going to be devastated and I do care about that.

To all of you with sound, mentally healthy kids, know that you are blessed.  Love them and cherish them everyday.

Or sold into the sex slave trade.😥 Hopefully she'll figure it out before it's too late. I'm am glad I have fairly normal kids though my middle daughter has some problems from being stabbed in the back twice only missing her aorta by a 1/4 of an inch at 14 years old.

I have to be very philosophical about this.  We cannot live our children’s lives for them.  I have a reputation for exceedingly poor judgement and being a few cards shy of a full deck myself so that little apple didn’t fall far from the tree.

Difficult news to hear indeed. I can't even imagine being in that situation so I won't even begin to offer an opinion. It seems easy to be on the outside and toss advice in but one truly don't know what they would do without experiencing all the details first hand. Not only that but, 2 different individuals might respond completely different from one another even under the exact same circumstances.
I wish you and the daughter the best of luck. Even more importantly, I wish for her safety as well as happiness.

Can’t imagine letting our son go, but there has to be a limit, so I can’t blame El Kapitan.

Come to think of it, my Pa was overly protective to us, more often in a negative way, and I’ve unconsciously inherited that trait.

+1 on that. There's just too much evel in this world and getting worse everyday or it's always been this bad but we hear about it more these days.

Sounds like the right call for your emotional health and well being.

We unfortunately have one in our family like that who has burned bridges with everyone. Abusive narcissist drug addict who uses perpetual victimhood for power over everyone and we've all had enough of the drama. She refuses to change despite admitting she needs help and continues to act like a young entitled brat despite being near elderly age. We put her on God's hook where she belongs as we can do nothing to help someone who doesn't want it and are enjoying life without her torment. Just because you're family doesn't give you the right to make everyone's life he|| because you refuse to get happy. She put her father through he|| too even on his death bed and is always feuding with her siblings and dying mother. Good riddance is all I can say.

Prayers sent. I don't know what the answer is to all mental illness. I do believe there is help and hope but it requires the ill to accept they need help, sadly most reject help either because they think the help is harmful or that they don't need help at all. As parents or loved ones we can only do so much and we can't live their lives for them. It certainly does get wearing dealing with both mentally ill and just with poor choices too.

Not up yet.  Haven't gone to bed.  Tomorrow I had possibly planned to swap a short barrel out for a long barrel on an R9.  I did order a new spring and guide so I may wait until that arrives and do the work all at once.  We shall see.

Good morning GTA! Happy Tuesday! Back to the grind for me! Up at 03-something couldn’t get back to sleep, so I got out of bed and started coffee at 0400 CST. Not sure what’s in store for me yet, but I’ll find out by 0800. Once I’m ready I’ll go wash my van from the road salt and brine. It’s 20* right now, but we should see 42* today, we should be above freezing the next 10 days.

I have to appease the plumbing gods today, round 2 of this mess. Thought the problem was solved,NOT!. I have to replace at least 4' of cpvc that was brittle all the way down the next joint. Hopefully this will be the last of this for awhile, I would rather be fixing my air guns than this mess.

Rambo and Boss thought it was a good idea to start whining and growling at 4:15 this morning. They do this right at the side of the bed so you have no choice but to get up. It don't do any good to tell them to shut up or go lay down, they just get louder. Ya just gotta get up and feed them and let them out.
Good news.. no frozen pipes this morning. Everything is flowing as normal.
A welcome warm up is coming beginning today. Mid 50's expected and 70's by the weekend. I still have a mess of fallen trees and branches out there to clean up.

That is good news, Bill! And Kris, sorry for your mess, but in my mind, that’s good news too- 4’ of PVC is a whole lot better than 1/2” copper with unseen cracks and failed sweat joints. I hope you get it tied up and running.

The worst parts of PVC repairs is access and having all the parts needed. I don't want to have to make a trip to town to get parts when needed so I stock more variety of parts than some stores do, and I try to keep my primer and glue supply fresh too. All my plumbing tools are in a dedicated tool box so I can just grab it. I don't go under the house anymore though so any repairs needed there will be some younger, limber, plumber if needed. I was hoping my grandson that moved back to Idaho would replace all the PVC out by the Well for me before he went but it didn't happen. All of that Well plumbing is about or over 20 years old and I am sure it is brittle, a hard freeze and I am sure it would be burst.

I was up at 7:00 AM this morning. Our rain isn't suppose to start until 5:00PM so I am going to get outside and get some more stuff done today. It is 49°F currently and suppose to get up to 66°F today, so much cooler than yesterday but still pretty nice!

Oh and the last three mornings I weighed 202.3-202.6lbs so, I think I made it Thanksgiving through Christmas losing weight this year. 

More activity and just two meals a day seems to be working for me.

I got the biggest section of that fallen tree cut into 18" logs. I think I counted 15 logs.
After a break and fuel/bar oil refill I'll start on the 2 smaller sections and all the other limbs and branches from around the property. I got a nice wood pile going and no wood stove. I could have some really great camp fires though..
