Mornin yall.  I was at work at 7 this a.m. Chainsawing a big tree that had fallen across the main park drive.  Phil came in early to run the tractor.  We just bucked it up into 10' lengths and pushed it off the road.  Got the park open and running, let a bunch of divers into Cherokee sink.  I'll have to go and check on them later.  Now I'm trying to avoid paperwork.  Maybe I'll go hang out with the archeologist some today.  They are always fun.

Yeah but these guys are pretty lonely out there in the woods and they love to talk about what they are doing and show off a little.  I always learn something.

Personally I think archeologist have the most mind numbing job on the planet. LOL!

Betty Lou cracks me up.. when driving down the road she's always complaining that folks have their decorations up to early or leave them up too late.
We passed a house last week that had a large blow up Santa in the yard.
She said "Slow your roll fatboy, it ain't even Thanksgiving yet".

I don't do decorations outside and never have.

A X'mas wreath on the front glass door is enough.

I did some subtle decorating in my bedroom

If that was all you did it wouldn't be as bad but you need to map everything that you find in the grid along with the depth it was found.

I've always wanted to do some archeological work since seeing them find mammoth's remains and historical digs up near Fort Michlimackinac then down at Parris Island when they found Jean Ribaut's Charlesfort/Santa Elena. Sounds interesting

The lake's Dam is about three miles from where I live and mammoths and mastodons roamed where Diamond Valley Lake now sits, and are features at the Western Science Center near Hemet at the lake.

The museum has replicas of a mammoth and a mastodon on display, along with actual bones. Excavation done when the lake and its dams were developed in 1998 unearthed fossils from many species in what today is Hemet. Evidence of mammoths and mastodons is perhaps the most spectacular, due to size. One prize now in the museum’s collection is a mastodon fossil.

Mammoths and Mastodons were contemporaries, and both Mastodons, 8 to 10 feet tall, stuck to forested areas, such as those in the hills around the valley, and ate leafier fare than the chewy grasses supporting the mammoths. They say the area’s topography at the time was similar to today’s, with steep hills, forested areas and the valley floor.

There were American lion, saber-tooth cats and the dire wolfs that were known to exist in this area at the time of the mammoths and mastodons too.

The Western Science Center is 5 miles away from where I live.

I wouldn't mind visiting the dig sites but I think I'll leave the digging, sifting and mapping to the experts.

Purdue Ft. Wayne is called the Mastodons not Boilermakers because of the local find.

Why the Mastodon?
Mastodons roamed the southern Great Lakes region of North America more than 10,000 years ago. But it was in 1968—four years after the university was founded—that Jack Sunderman, chair of the Department of Geology, identified a leg bone of a mastodon found just south of Angola, Indiana. Sunderman and his team of faculty and students subsequently unearthed the entire mastodon skeleton—along with the skull of a baby mastodon.

 This guy has been on display there every since.

Good morning GTA! Happy Sunday! I slept in until around 0600 CST. We got home around 1830 last night. This morning I have Sunday school at 0900 and Ch**ch at 1000 hrs. Other than that, we have unpacking to do and hopefully relax the day away. Tomorrow it’s back to the grind for me and I’m on call for the week. It’s only supposed to get to 51* today, but I might shoot an airgun later.

We decided to play hooky from church this morning and just stay home for a change and watch Dr. Charles Stanley on TV with our coffee. We do that every now and then. When covid struck we couldn't go to church for over a year so we watched Dr. Stanley every Sunday, he is so good!

Some people have their Christmas lights up before Halloween and Thanksgiving here. I take my tree down on Jan 1st but often see people leaving their lights up a week later+.

You've never lived in Lucerne valley I take it? They leave them up year round.

Seriously, a woman would have a hard time keeping up with my cleanliness

I was using a lopper to cut up branches and burn them in my trash burn barrel. I swear, that lopper is the best one I've ever used. It will cut through an inch and a half of dead dried out branches even when an OLD out of shape 70 year old is operating it. Wish I could figure out what the brand is in case it ever breaks. If the branch has green on it it goes through like buttah.

Sounds like a compound lopper I have. I don't know what brand it is either, but it sure works good as long as it holds up.
