Have you tried cross referencing the part # on the breaker? Someone should have 1 some where. Breakers get corroded and springs which help the contacts connect wear out. My bet would be corrosion on the contacts. I know I had problems with breakers in the mobile home I lived in from moisture getting in it. Of course it didn't help that the box was facing the direction the heavy rains came from.

I see you did search online for obsolete Square D breakers?   There are companies that specialize in old Square D and used Square D.    1983 wasn't that long ago.

What we have is the main under the meter then a box with a 100 Amp service breaker that goes to the houses panel and a 40 Amp breaker for the well. The panel on the house is where the suspect 100Amp Square D is. Today I retested by the meter and this time had no power on one side of the 100Amp there. I had tested that 4 other times and it was always good but finally I caught it in it faulty mode. I went and bought a replacement for it, it was a common type Siemens brand, Home Depot had it. Now I have no flickering and all's well.

The other 4 times I tested it, it had gone back on while I walked the 30' around to get to it. I am glad I got it figured out and fixed. I hate intermittent problems and IMO it seems like an extra panel/main now, but the well went in first so that is why it was put in.

Yep, intermittent electrical problems can make you crazy.   Good deal that you solved it for reasonable money.   I always specified Square D on every project I was involved with.  Out of thousands of breakers on hundreds of panels, I can only recall a couple of Square D breakers that ever failed.  It's been a while,  maybe they are c^^p nowadays.

The one that did fail was a General Electric 100Amp 2 pole. I compared it to the Siemens at Home Depot and it matched. It was the only breaker they had that matched. I still don't understand how it could work intermittently and have no appearance, feel or even burnt smell. How can it conduct power intermittently and not be arcing?

Good morning GTA! Happy Thursday! Up at 0300 CT via my alarm. I wouldn’t be up yet if I didn’t have to be. I didn’t get to wash my van yesterday. So, I’m going to get on the road at 0400, wash my van & go get a big cup of coffee and jam on west to Tulsa. I’ll probably be the first one there, but it’s better to be early than late.

Good morning GTA!  And good morning John, I hope everyone has a Happy Thursday! I got up at at 0410 CT via my internal alarm, LOL.

I'm going to hook up the trailer at daylight and load the mower and string trimmer and head north about 10 miles to cut one our mutual friend's yard. 

Her husband had abused her emotionally for years and she moved out to this place a couple of years ago, thankfully she's divorced now.  The guy who was cutting her yard before I started cutting it for her charged her $70 each time. I told her I'd cut it for $45. She pays me $50 everytime, it basically covers my expenses and for a little pocket change.  So me cutting it saves her a little money and it's something we can do to help.

After I finish her yard I'll drive south 20 miles passing where we live to cut Bethany's, our middle daughter's yard. If I'm lucky I'll be home by noon. Then hopefully tomorrow I'll cut our yard.

It's 61° this morning and probably the last cool morning we'll have for a while. The summer time temps are going to slowly return. 

Will I get to shoot any today?  We'll just have to wait and see how hot it is and how tired I am.

I've been taking a very deep dive into some things for work. Outside of work, home drama with the boys (they were told to move out at by Dec 31st), lost a dog, and doing a general clean-up of my shed, the garage, and working on some outdoor power equipment. 

Got the Billy Goat brush mower back up and running, replaced both spindles on the TroyBilt rider, and mid-repair on a push-mower.  Sonja and I are looking forward to the future.

Hang in there, Peter. I’m always looking forward, I have no idea what the future holds for me, here on earth… but I just keep pushing forward. Slow going it seems, but forward is good.

I opened it up and could see that it had arced a little but the real problem was that the spring loaded clamp connecter that makes contact to the bus had gotten hot enough to lose it spring properties on one side. I had notice that the one side looked a little wide but after removing it it was more obvious that it had been a bad and loose connection. Maybe that part was defective and a bit loose from the beginning or more likely was not installed right.

  The insulating bus mounts in the box were/are broken so the bus is just floating in the air supported by the wires only.   Danger Will Robinson    WOW not good! The wires are stiff and hold it pretty well, but NO, I don't like that at all.

Good morning GTA! Happy Friday!!! Up at 0430 CT. Finishing up my last coffee at the house and then I have to get ready to get on the road. I’m pulling my trailer with me, I have a crate of parts on a pallet I need to pickup, then a 2 hour ride northeast. I have a 17+ year old package unit that we need to rebuild. The blower motor mounts broke, the condenser fan shroud broke- sending the fan blades into the condenser coil, slashing and thrashing it. So, we have to replace the condenser coil, the condenser fan motor, fan blade & top shroud & remount the blower motor. Best of all, it’s getting new R22. They should’ve just replaced it. But, should be a good day for me & the newest- new guy. I haven’t met him yet, but when I called him last night and told him what we were doing, he said “Rad!”… I’m not sure what planet or generation he’s from. Should be fun.

John, I guess I'm just too old, I've never, I mean NEVER used the word "Rad" in any sentence. I've heard it used by some guy from California but it not even in my vocabulary.

It was definitely a term from my generation, but would’ve felt weird if I ever said it. I guess I’m going to find out something about the new guy when I get to the job. It could be fun, or he could be annoying. We’ll see, but it’s Friday- regardless.

Oh, I know it, but this is redneck country… he sounds like he could be from the left coast over the phone. I grew up on the east coast and rode BMX and motocross in the 70’s & 80’s. Similar lingo, but not exactly the same lifestyle. I did use “gnarly” a lot back then.
