I mean externally. I'm wondering what I should use to wipe down my stocks and metal so they don't corrode. Can I use clorox wipes? Do I need pledge for the wood? Any suggestions would be very helpful.

I personally wouldn't use anything labeled "Clorox", because I'd be afraid that the chems could have a negative effect. I want to try some Ballistol (hope I spelled it correctly). If memory serves me, it's recommended by a couple of our posters here as an all-purpose cleaner for the entire gun.

I do my metal parts with Break Free CLP and wipe the wood down with Rem oil.

I use Pledge on the wood and metal, I've used Ballistol and like it ok, but I prefer Pledge. I try to stay away from all the oil type products.

I use Ballistol, the stuff is amazing. It cleans and shines the metal parts of the gun, removing all traces of finger prints or oil and restores the rich, deep color of the bluing. It also works fantastic on the stock. Giving the stock a good rub with the ballistol really brings out the beauty of the wood as well as protecting it. Ballistol has a little bit of a weird odor to it when you're using it but the odor doesn't transfer to the rifle. I actually got to like the smell

I spray some on an old silicone gun cloth I have and then wipe down the entire rifle after every outing, the stuff really is amazing.

Another vote for Break Free. Been using it for decades on my pb's and now airguns. I have some I bought in the 70's and 80's that still look new. I wipe the entire gun with it.
Wal-Mart sells it under Winchester brand also.

I use Ballistol on all my AG's(have not started using it on my PB's "yet"), the metal, wood an "yes" I have even used it to clean bore's an lube pellet's with zero bad affect's, for anyone going to start hollering about Hydrocabon base product's please read the label on goo-gone first, then we can discuss it, also any cleaner going into the bore should be dry patched completely out after use.

another vote for ballistol. stuff works great! i'm not sure if manny was joking or not...the stuff stinks! hehehe but it works great, and the price is right.

We have two locally (actually 3, but one of them sells lots of other stuff too). The two I've been to don't have it. I guess I just went to the wrong gun shops, lol. Can I get it at Cabelas? I usually make a trek there a couple of times per year.

Alot of gun shop's should have it Lizzie or maybe even a hardwear store, as the guy's say it DOES have a funny smell to it at first app. but goes away fast, the stuff was made for German troop's during the first war Lizzie an at "that" time was used even for small wound's an such in the field(just say it's not approved by "our" FDA). If you don't find any let me know an I'll send you a couple of oz's or if you want I'll pick up a big can for ya an send it down(I have used "maybe" an ounce in a year).

hey lizzie, i cant find it localy myself. i get mine from Pyramid. i think its $7 for the areasol can and i get a $4 silicone rag too

Tyler I just place it on any cotton cloth for the wipe down's an such(I keep the rag in a zip-lock), once the rag is pretty soaked it will last for a long time, getting dirty will have you tossing it before the "oil" wear's off/out.
