Star of winter(and in your case, a WI winter)may not be the perfect time to start with co2.But if you keep the pistol warm, willwork as expected (outside, I'd wear it under my coat).I do keep it charged...usually closer to the end of a 12gr.'s life, where it starts to drop off in speed. If it's actually sealed, will stay gassed up for months.Sometimes (with the Crosman type systems) the 12gr.is going to want to stick to it's seal in storage. A tiny drop of lube on the mouth of the 12gr. seems to keep that from happening.(*Not going to get into a lube-argument here....whatever is made to be 0-ring/seal friendly seems to work as well as anything else.Pneumatic tool oil, automatic transmission flud, PellGunOil,whatever. So long as it doesn't eat plastics or dry out to a sticky film,it's OK with me.)Other "trick"with Crosmans is to NOT crank down on the end cap....sealing is enough, over tightening won't help.Pellet selection isn't real good at most places today....no realway to tell what your pistol would like, but I'd probably order some of the lighter weight JSB's.....but would check if the local supply of Crosman 14.3's worked for you as well.
if you plan of scoping it...just better to get a 2240XL
Russel, try looking at Airgun Universe, I just ordered one from them. I have a TKO and I will see the difference for me self but I hear good things about them.
Not to hijack this thread, but entertaining thoughts about a steel breach for my own 2240 and also adding a Williams rear sight.Anyone have that setup and opinion?

I have a 2240 with the steel breech and Williams notch sight (and a few more add-ons ). My opinion? Definitely worth it! The steel breech is a must for stabilizing the barrel, and the Williams sight made the gun easier to shoot accurately, especially with the .177 LW barrel it now has.@ Vipersdad, I have five 2240 and they all shot very accurately the Crosman Premier Ultra Magnum 14.3 grains domed pellets with the original barrel. Also the RWS Hobby 11.9 grains wadcutters shoots very accurately. And I've left CO2 cartriges in my guns for up to 6 months with no issues whatsoever, just be sure to put a drop of oil on the tip before inserting it in the gun. HTH.
