Finding the right one

I was given the go ahead by my CFO (aka wife) to buy a new gun for my birthday. Initially I was going to get a new shotgun. But for hunting they are no more accurate than putting a rifled barrel on my 500A. Then I was thinking of a 7.62x39 upper. But I would rather just build the entire thing (and I can sneakily piece that together). So I decided a new air rifle would actually do what I want.

I do a lot of small game hunting with my air rifles already. But I want something much lighter than my Hatsan BT65SB (which will be coming up in the classy section soon). Of course I am going to go with a PCP otherwise I would not be posting here. I have been looking at AirForce for a long time now and they meet what I want, but I want to make see what the other options are as something might be a better fit for me.

1. .25 or .22 that can single load the longest of pellets.
2. Something lightweight, under 6lbs if possible.
3. Push those heavy slugs to 900+ fps.
4. If possible iron sights.

The version that comes with the peep sights is tuned for target shoot and very low velocity. You want the full power version.

The thing asked for favorite air rifles. I have not owned an AirForce or FX, but they are my favorite.

I'd name the Leshiy Classic, but it's not cheap.

There's also the Evanix Rex, which is actually my first choice as described.

I was looking at Evanix and I won't be any longer. A bunch of bad reviews on the Rex. I always thought they were a top of the line MFG. Guess not.

It's the heavy weight pellet (.22/25)  at 900fps and 6 pounds or under.  Not knowing what you consider heavy.  Heavy once was 18-21gr. (.22) but now it'smore like 25-34gr..

From your first posts (changing uppers to 7.62X39) would guess the styling/handling of the AirForce or Rex would be  no problem for you.....and of the two (considering the Rex isn't easy to find in .25), would go with the AirForce.

I personally didn't like mine, but lots of people do seem to. It is a simple system and they can shoot well.

Don't exclude a repeater, just want plenty of room to seat longer pellets (slugs?)....and some repeaters defy efforts to single load...some have short magazine length limits.

As much as we like to pretend-spend other people'smoney, am not coming up with a whole lot of rifles that I know would meet those requirments.

I have a Condor SS in .25. It will take tree rats all day long at 75 yards. But you do need a scope.

34-42gr .25 is what I call heavy.

AirForce styling is fine with me. But even 2x4 design I can do (regular style) as long as the ergonomics have been well designed

My problem with repeaters is exactly that some won't take longer loads. And there is that concern about the single shot tray being an afterthought. From what I seen though the Avenger can take slugs in the magazine.

I'm not adverse to a scope. Irons are a bonus. That's a lot of power for .25. I know that thing drops them. My only hangup with an AirForce is I'll want to mod it, hahaha.

Do have a tinker-toy aspect that does keep people buying/changing various parts....but they've come a whole lot closer with today's to what we were doing back then with the  old ones....and I do appreciate a simple system.

Don't see a problem adding a simple open sight....it'sa pretty "goovie"system that adapts well.Could likely find a front/rear open sight combination that would  work and NOT have to be removed to mount a scope.

Shucks...never thought I'dbe promoting these after all the BS with the early version. But honest posters have posted enough  that there does seem to be enough improvment that I'll have to reconsider.

i just got an airforce condor myself in .25 cal. i put a frame extender to try to quiet it down. its a monster of a PCP. i just found a tune for shooting my NOE 37 gr hollow points that i cast. starting fil pressure of 2800 psi and get 35 shots. Start at power wheel at 6 then turn it down every 5 shots. this gave me a 905 fps average and around a 69 FPE average. ending at 2000 psi. starts to get really loud even moderated.
oh and its a super light weight compared to my Gauntlet. Accuracy testing will be next.

AR6k is only 5.5# and can load the longest of .22 pellets in the mag. Only a 30 FPE gun, though. No sights.

I tried my AR6k with a Sig Romeo 5 red dot and it's a really nice setup. I suppose you could load one pellet in the mag and pretend it's a single shot, lol. Not going to get super high velocity with the heaviest pellets, but it does apparently shoot slugs okay. I haven't tried any yet.

It's quickly becoming my favorite hunting gun. I wasn't quite as excited about it as this guy, but pretty close.

So basicaly looking for a 45 foot pound rifle (lets take 25gr.as "heavy"  900fps as the minimumby your collective "want list"......either .22 or .25) that starts off at under 6 pounds before you bolt any additions on it.

If you feel like some "wiggle room"...are more rifles than you might think. Some a little heavier,some a little slower with heavy weights...some a good deal heavier....some restricted by design for single shot use.


If you stick to your guns,just aren'ta "carp load"of PCP's that fill that cornor of the market.

For a dedicated lightweight pcp , my vote goes to the Evanix AR6K . I’ve got the bottle version of that gun and it’s the best hunting rig I have . It easily makes 50fpe in .22 and can shoot 39grain cast bullets with the best of them . The Evanix barrels love the JSB monsters .

I read a bunch of bad reviews and watched some about Evanix. They seem to have an issue with bore size inconsistency, and not standing by their warranty.
