Finally got to do some testing today and the best I could do was with the 150gr Vogel hollow points. at 50yards off a shaky bench and 15mph variable wind was 1 1/4" at best. I tried from 122 to 150gr and the 150 was the best.I was hoping for a little tighter but at this point I feel comfortable taking a hog out to 50yrds.
Where do you get those 'snake bite' slugs you guys are talking about?? I need to try some more.
Drat. I read that the DAQ doesn't like the slugs that have the wax/grease or whatever that stuff is. So I boiled a bunch of 130gr ones to remove it. I'm going to re-try them to see if it makes a difference. They are not hollow points.
I may have committed a crime. I did not even check the bore of this gun when I got it. When you mentioned 'Mule Snot' a little bell went off in my head. CLEAN THE BOREI had to make some patches out of a cotton rag and proceeded to swab it out. GUNK from who knows where on the first 5 passes.I feel stupid. After 20 total passes the patches are now clean and I suspect the barrel is too.Back to square 1
MUCH better now! I used the 115gr slugs from Hunters Supply that came with the gun just to see what they would do with a clean barrel and the wax removed. When I first shot these they would hardly stay on paper at 25yds???Here they are at 50yds flying at 860 and 115gr for 189FPEThe first shot always flies off about an inch but the next two are spot on.Next week I'll go back to the hollow points in .309
