Sticky stock on Akela that just arrived

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum, but excited to be here. I just took delivery of my Akela 5 minutes ago, and upon opening the box I noticed a sticky residue all over the stock. Almost like an overspray of some kind, if that makes sense. Doesn't really come off with a quick spit shine, so I'm wondering if this is normal before I go ahead and use a little elbow grease to clean it up (or if you guys think I should give Crosman, err, Velocity Outdoor a call about it).

Any insight is greatly appreciated, thanks!

  I would say it’s not “normal” per say... most everyone else has commented on how dry the wood has been from what I’ve read so far, and the stocks can usually benefit by some waxing or oiling. My Cayden stock was very dry before I re-stained it!
 Try some 0000 steel wool and give it a gentle rub down and see if that helps.

Both my .22 and .25 Kratos came super dry, BUT the finish stain you could remove with hard rubs and dry rag. Going to give one a good soaking and rub down with Howard Orange oil wood polish and see what happens, But sticky  no

You might also try using the 0000 steel wool with some Ballistol. I'd try the steel wool first & if results aren't up to your expectations, add a little Ballistol with the 0000.

I used Ballistol with 0000 on my Blue Streak & it really helped the finish.

Appreciate the replies, and here's a quick update:

I used warm, soapy water on a soft towel to go over the sticky spots, followed by a soft, dry towel. Unfortunately, it had no effect, and the spots still remained sticky after drying. After messaging with a few other Akela owners, it's become obvious that what I received is not the norm, and I'll be calling Crosman customer service. I just spent a decent amount of money (for me) on this gun, so I'd like to receive one without these issues.
