I'm getting ready to buy a .22 Marauder. The Midway birthday discount is irresistible at this point.

I've read or heard somewhere that the mag has limitations regarding pellet length. Is this a concern? I would most likely use 18.1 JSBs if they shoot well. Which pellets are excluded by the mag depth?

Also there is a lot of talk about the mag springs being problematic. Is this a real problem or just attributed to heavy handed operator error?

I have a MRod and yes the mag spring can give you a little trouble but is easily fixed. The 90 degree end once in a great while will pop out of a small hole in the mag. All you do is remove the tiny screw holding the mag together and put the end of the spring back in the hole. It has happened to me 2 or 3 times in 2 -3 thousand shots. So it is no real problem, just have 3 or 4 mags and if one gives you a problem you can play with it at your convenience and still be able to shot.

EunJins are also too long.... Kodiaks and the JSB Heavies fit no problem....

Why not just buy the single shot tray as part of your order, so it is a non-issue? There are also those who believe the single shot tray will yield more accurate results, since there's less chance of an alignment problem to deform the pellet. I haven't tried yet, but I bet this is just theory, or Marauder owners would be screaming bloody murder.

So does the single shot tray allow more length or is the breach design the limitation? I really don't see me shooting many EunJins as most of my game will be rabbits and pests. I'm thinking this setup will get me out to 60 yards or so for these critters.

The single shot tray will let you shoot the longer pellets. If you haven't already, you need to try the Predators. If your gun shoots them well, they are arguably the best hunting pellet out there

My disco with predators will reach 60 yards with ease. I wouldn't mind if the disco was a repeater and could mod it for it anyhow, but one shot one kill only needs one shot
Not doggin' on the mrod, but it sounds ( to me ) like if it can't take preds in the mag it is less of a hunter, at least without the single tray

You can use longer pellets with the SST because the magazine has a layer of plastic in front of and in back of the pellets that limits the length of the pellets to a bit less that the size of the breech opening. With the SST you have the whole opening to work with, plus you can angle the pellet in a bit too.

As Rico said, the fix to make predators fit in the mag is supposed to be pretty easy.

There is 2 or 3 repeater conversions for the disco one or 2 of which use the mrod clips

The mod is a bit crude but the concept is clear. There seems to enough material in the front mag wall to remove some to make room for the Polymags.

I just ordered .22 Marauder, 2 extra mags and a SST. I should have in a week or so

hopefully you get one with a good barrel. right now my m rod is just sitting there until i can round up $200 for a LW barrel. mines extremely pellet picky and if i speed it up at all nothing even gets close to grouping. if you get a good one you should love it. there very quiet, the trigger is AMAZING (which is why i stole it off the mrod and put it on my disco). also like the extra weight and balance of it. cant wait until i get the new barrel and send it for a tune. should be amazing

Going 22. Have other 22s and my game is mostly rabbits. I don't think the FPE difference is that great, the heavy 22s will stay subsonic yielding flatter shooting characteristics than the 25. Also many more pellets choices in 22. That's my story and I'm sticking to it

In an Mrod, I would recommend you get the 25 caliber and there are plenty of good pellet choices for 25 caliber including Predators.

The 25 Mrod is almost a different gun than the 22. Most get single hole precision at 50 yards right from the factory. With the 22, you may have to try a bunch of different pellets just to find one brand/model that groups tightly. They all group tightly out of the 25.

Also, 25 caliber pellets hit so much harder and work better for hunting. When I hit them with my 25, the squirrels are dead-right-there - and they are tougher than rabbits.

And, as you said, you already have a 22. Before I did the research, I was leaning towards the 22 m-rod, but I'm so glad I ended up with the 25.

This video is a bit long, but watch it before you choose a 22 over a 25 caliber Maurader.

it doesn't have the power of the sumatra's but all i can remember reading from .25 mrod owners, they claim 1 hole accuracy anyway. it makes more energy than .177 or .22. guess it depends on what you looking for
