Small Akela Modification

The rear cheek piece on the Akela sits up a little too high for me to get a comfortable cheek weld when shooting without very high rings or adding a riser on the rail. I removed the factory cheek piece and replaced it with a couple of rail covers (MAGPUL I think) for a more comfortable and almost factory looking cheek weld. (Lowers just enough!!)

I have the same problem with my Akela, I ended up just removing the cheek piece and going without one. Your idea seems better.

I went without one too initially, but the rail covers are more comfortable, and there are many styles to chose from. I just happened to have the ones shown, but a quick search shows many out there. ( These two just happen to be the right size to fit perfectly without cutting )

There's a few out there that are smooth and might be a more comfortable option than the ribs.

I found some cheap ones last week. It was on brownells I think it was.

The stock cheek rest is 2 piece and the top piece can be removed and then the lower piece acts like a picatinny rail cover.

Good catch on the stock cheek piece Troy, but I just measured and the stock piece without the top cover is still about 25% higher than the rail covers, and every little bit helps.

I like the Ergo soft rubber covers, I think I will order some of those.
