Stormrider question

Does anyone know the length of pull on a Stormrider?   I’m looking for a gun for my daughter in law and she says my Maximus is a little too long and a too heavy for her to shoot comfortably. The Gen 2 Stormrider is a pound lighter so it might work if it’s shorter.

My Gen I wood-stocked Stormrider has an adult length of pull, so figure ~13-14". Probably about the same as the Maximus.

However, if you were to get a Gen I in wood (IIRC, the Gen II is only synthetic) you could shorten the stock for her without too much trouble.

When I bought my Discovery .22, I felt it was too short for my relatively short arms.  Eventually, about 1.5 inches were added to its length (picture below).  I no longer have the rifle; and I have often regretted letting it go.

The Stormrider is svelte in comparison but the LOP is roughly equivalent.

We do need to get new shooters into the sport....your own kids, coworkers... whomever. But a father/daughter shared outing is even more important and worth adapting a "her" rifle.

Doesn't sound like she's way too short; if she can shoot them MAxi and just complain about the stock length and weight,it'slikely not all that much stock-shortening needed

Short hold is basically changing the folcum,making the lever longer...weight it self would probably be OK if it were better balancedin her hands (best she hated un-shouldering it and having the stock pivot up to smack her cheek more than the weight itself).

With Nomadic on this...wood is much easier to work with than a hollow plastic stock.   Shortening the stock, fitting the issue butt pad....later on, as she grew,might need to un-shorten it, so save the cut off section.

Balance would be better for a short arm hold...over all lighter.

If you hand-pump, would be pretty close to the same effort as the Maxi. (135cc's of 2K air is about 100cc's of 3K air).

Only adaption/problem with the Stormrider would be the length from grip to trigger...which is long for full sized hands.  But the shape of the grip allows a higher grip,which shortend the trigger reach for smaller hands.

I agree on the stock needing to be much shorter. 3/4 - 1 inch at most. A little goes a long way on LOP.  She is a full grown adult just smaller in stature.  The weight could just be a balance thing but it’s hard to tell with too long a stock.  Maybe a shortened Disco stock would be a place to start. Not too expensive and easy to work with to shorten.

Good question.  I’ve never heard of a youth stock from them

I own two PCP rifles- a Stormrider and a Maximus. The LOP seems just right to me on the Stormrider, and it seems a little short to me on the Maximus. Both are notably lightweight. I’m not even sure I’d say that the Stormrider weighs less- although it definitely feels like it balances more towards the rear.

As suggested, I’d probably recommend being ready to take an inch or more off the stock of the Stormrider if you’re thinking of going that route for a smaller person, and that MIGHT just do the trick.

They look small, so it might be tempting to get a Crosman pistol/carbine setup with the 1099 stock. But be aware that they have a 16" LOP.

My favorites run 14" to 14.3"...not real picky.

 Measuring the ones she likes to shoot(including the ones that became "hers"), they are on the short side (more like 13.8" LOP). 

Give her an adjustable one,and eventauly she'll adjust it to about 13.6",lower the cheek rest ,and adjust the but pad up (shorter neck).

Only "kid's" rifle I have at hand to measure is a Daisy/Avanti 499B,which runs 13 1/8".

An old Discovery runs about 13 5/8ths and most adult males felt it was a little short,but she likes the length.

 Point being, consiering the difference between my wife's size and mine, 1/2-3/4" would do it.

I bought the gen 1 for my 9 year old grandson and had to cut off about an inch to get the pull right for him. Not hard to do. Other options are the rifles with adjustable AR style stocks. The Brocock concept lite also worked well for him.

Well...as my older (anti-hunting) brother would say,"The family that slays togther,stays together"...so maybe it's worth fitting her with an airgun useful for hunting (although she draws the line at gutting/skinning/cleaning them)

Even without bloodshed,it's a good together-time...been working for +42 years.

So shame on me for making assumtions.

Assumed it was a budget type item.....the only adjustable stocks are on PCP match type rifles, match type speeds, with a bottom line of about $500.

And what husband wants to spend 2-2 1/2 times the money to get his arse-kicked? So was looking more in the $200-$250 area...and not finding anything really suited to the vertically-challenged.

Mean while tired an adjustable stocked rifle on her(which got us shooting for an hour or two) and letting her adjust it to where she liked it.

Her length shortened to 13 3/8"...cheek down...butt pad up...she calimed it fit "perfect".

An apology to another airgunner...was going to just send that rifle away.

Wife had forgotton about it...I wasn't using it

But a seriese of shipping rejections that got spread around the UPS/FedEx loacals kept it from being shipped.

Then Covid/lock down hit.

Then it blew a seal and I had to take it apart and reseal it.

And the wife noticed it on the bench getting repaired....and she picked it up.

At which point I was 1/2 screwed.

When she foundout she could adjust itto fit here,I was fully screwed.

I didn’t realize the Discovery stock was shorter than the Maximus stock. Since they are supposed to be a direct drop in exchange I assumed the dimensions were the same.  5/8 inch shorter might be short enough plus just for trial purpose removing the butt plate would gain another 1/8 inch.
   I’ve looked at the Prod as a possibility with a adjustable AR stock. Still in the mix but I would like to stay with .177 if possible.

Does seem like when they made the synthetic stock, they not only changed the style, they increased the length a bit.  Don't have a Maxi, so can't swear it's a stock-swap....pretty much depends on the gauge placement of the Maxi.
