I have had lots of experiences having had a yorkie that thought they were just dogs his size.I totally agree with you: they are gonna stink no matter what. That is sadly a given: I'm no expert, but my personal experience shows a 100% failure in that regard with the 5 skunks I have killed to this day.The last 2 ones, though, sprayed everything they had before I could even shoot them. That stuff burns insulation foam like crazy by the way. Not that it matters as I had to remove the panels and patch the area due to the smell... I also had a recliner in my garage/workshop area and to the dump it went also due to the spray. But what I am trying to achieve is to get dead skunks with the minimal kind of stink possible. Before they get in my garage (fool me once...)What I am good at is grabbing a shovel and scooping up those dead skunks super fast and tossing them super far. If you have tried, you know it's actually not that easy to do... For the one shot kills, there's room for improvement as the saying goes

The best skunk limiter is a wire trap , cat food a black drap ( not plastics) cover trap put in a bugie for a ride to a swimming hole no smell no fuss and best of all “ works every time”.
You can buy a no spray skunk trap for $75-85. That's a whole lot cheaper than buying a PCP, that's still going to get your yard sprayed as often a not. After caught, it's your choice of what to do.

After caught, it's your choice of what to do.Sadly, traps are a no-go for me. first, my dogs torment the skunks trapped. and the stink is total. Moreover, I end up with dogs smelling extremely bad for over a week and still have to dispatch the skunks after that. My dogs are over 100 lbs each (one is pure Great Pyrenees mastiff, the other his son, Great Pyr - German Shepherd mix) My wife loves her dogs and I don't want to do that to her.Mike, I did not consider the P-rod, that is great news if it is indeed enough at a very short range. I'll consider it!Keith, I may be able to do that to some extent, but any food will first and foremost attract my own animals. Peter, Carl, thanks for the suggestions, It's like discovering a new word to me! I do see an issue ordering form Krale, though. No matter how well I looked at the acceptable shipping destinations, I did not see the USA. I saw Canada and the U.S virgin islands, but not the continental U.S... Did I miss something? I can always shoot them an E-Mail, but it seems easier to just run it by you
Use worm castings or worm tea in a spot. The skunks love that smell and is what they forage for. I had to quit using those items in my garden because the skunks come in a dig for worms that aren't there, but the worm smell sure is.
Take something with just enough power to lung shoot the animal right behind the shoulders. Don't want to break any bones , don't cuase any pain. Be very calm when approaching the animal , talk gently to it. After the shot slowly back away. If done right the animal will not spray. In a powder burner talk , all the power that is needed is a cb cap for a 22 cal. Remember , no pain. The way you guys are carrying on , you'll be having some fun.
How about a remote control SAM-Rod?Have you seen this thread?https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=162478.0Hunter
I have a Hatsan AT-P2 in .25 out of the box did 15 shots at 23FPE with 2.5% ES, 2 spring turns made a korean cliff starting at 30FPE ten shots to 23FPE.1/2 unf barrel with large LDC makes it a perfect yard gun, thumps and is quiet. It is an AT-44 variant so super common parts, you can even get a lefty grip.AT-P1 is the same without adjustable stock and refurbs can be had, on occasion, for $129 at Hatsan's site (got lucky and picked one up in .177 does 13 shots at 10FPE).It is no EDgun, but bang for buck is amazing.
RonanI realize you have already looked at the P-rod, however for the situation you describe, it seems well suited. You can adjust the stock configuration to give you several higher power shots, with just an allen wrench. It's compact and best of all it's light. They show up in the classifieds for $250 - $300 depending on the work done to them. If you are going for a heart/lung shot from 20 yards or less I think it would do the trick. I have several nicer, more expensive rifles, but always seem to grab my P-rod. It's odd but it's my favorite.
