How do you gals & guys with multiple guns do it?

you can see in my profile i don't own many airguns.  but the guns i do own all have different trigger feel.  if i don't practice routinely with all of them, i can't get decent groups when i do pull them out.  problem is, i don't have the time to shoot them all, all the time.


i bring this up because today i took out my Brocock Contour for an up coming squirrel hunt this weekend.  now normally i'm out back in august off hand practicing with this gun for squirrels.  this year i've been very busy with the remodel, fishing, bicycling, canoeing, sailing.  you know, the important stuff.   i took out the Contour to re-sight it.   when the leaves are still on the trees as they are now, i sight it in for 25 yards, after the leaves fall, i sight it in for 40 yards.  at 25 yards my groups weren't any better than if i threw the pellets at the target.  i couldn't figure it out.  then i took a couple shots with my HW100BP-K and realized what was happening.  the HW, which i have been shooting most often this year, has a very light trigger, while the Contour has a heavy non-adjustable hunting trigger.  after several magazines, the groups tightened up to their usual size and i realized it was the trigger pull that was the culprit. 


with that established.  those of you who have many guns, are you proficient with all of them, or does it take some shooting to regain that control.

 Before putting a different gun back in service I will shoot a mag or 2, to get used to the guns "quirks" again, some are not as hard to get behind the trigger and go, but heavy triggers get me every time for sure.
 Or if shooting a plinker in the off season aka work took over, when time allows and then shoot a gun with light trigger, gives one a surprise as the shot is fired just thinking about it

That's why my guns are all the same, different calibers and tuned to different powers but basically the same guns,

Operate the same, triggers are about the same,

I've decided to go this route awhile back,....and for other reasons too.

Takes a few shots with some to get the feel again but as a plinker It's not that big of a deal to switch between my 30 guns.

Some will always just be " right " and just be second nature to me but some I definitely do have to get used to again after not shooting them for a while.

I'm the same way.

I have a few PCPs with excellent triggers, some with decent, and one with a fairly bad trigger, but they all shoot well.  Same goes for my pumpers, springers, and CO2 guns.  None of them have very light triggers , so perhaps that is why.  I've never been a fan of a very light trigger given I'm either plinking or killing critters.

Just like others mentioned, I like to take a couple of shots to get a feel for the trigger before I start shooting (hunting or paper punching).

i shoot so little these days that every time i get the chance to shoot is a new experience situation....

it helps that i have a very broad range of sub $500 airguns, everything is different so fnding the reason and rhyme of each becomes a quick study...

most shooting i get do is invasive pest birds, so i don't do groups beyond sighting in,  my goal is hitting my target the first and usually only time i get to line up a shot...

lucky me,  i have several, one and done shooters in the minute of starling range.....now for that ground hog

I'm in the same boat as you Chuck, don't shoot as much as I used to but when I do I spend 10 or 15 minutes readjusting to the triggers.

Well here's where we are the same!

I just have a lot of HWs: same triggers, same operation, same "feel" all around in different calibers!

I just take a few shots and pay attention to the feel. With "198 current" airguns I do have a huge variance in how the shoot and quirks, There are certain ones that I remember and others I have to make adjustments for, I do have notes I can look at on my computer if needed.

Tried it....not as easy as it sounds.

Besides the psycologic reasons,  it'sremembering how each one wants to be held, different feeling triggers,different scopes.

Am not trigger picky...seems like I get use to whatever it is pretty quickly.

Not to start th springer thing up again....but it is wasier to manage with "recoiless" airguns (at least recoiless in our vocabulary if not Newton's).

Also have to NOT ask your self "why?".  It's a bit of a masochist thing to even start.

Just seems so much easier to shoot 4 seperate targets and then stack them up (or scan them and over lap the scans) to get the same information.

Tried it with springers,figuring that would be the hardest airgun to manage the trick.

Short range,but the trick was to fire 5 shots from each of the 4 rifles.  Just to make it more fun,each springer a different caliber.


One "oh &^^&"shot where I totally lost it..memory has it was the 5mm...and all of them were a shooting a bit high.



A day or two later,decided to try it again....same rifles.  There is still one "oops"at 6 o'clock,but it's a minor "oops".





Certainly won't be able to keep doing this at longer range...way different trjectories/windage.

With PCP's,end up with a much smaller cluster...or a much longer range cluster....but still have the same problems in making that a round cluster when using 4 different rifles...seems to want to be vertical or horizontal....more a "rip" than a "ball".

I have pumpers, springers, and gassers.  They all have radically different trigger pulls that require re-acquaintance after a lengthy separation.  I usually shoot my hunting guns the day before a hunt to check zero and re-acquaint myself with any idiosyncrasies of the gun that I may have forgotten.

I have guns I haven't shot in a year. Each time I pull one out it's like meeting the big brown truck in the driveway and opening the box for the first time.
I gotta tell ya, it sure saves wear and tear on the wallet.

I found it easier to stiffen up my 1 lb match trigger to a medium setting that is probably close to 2.4 lbs as opposed to trying to work miracles with my 4 lb triggers. I have been able to adjust all of mine below 3 lbs, even with some basic springers. The advantage for me is that I can shoot an HW95 right out of the box and the same with a P17 pistol that pulls a few ounces more

While I don’t shoot all of mine regularly; I do have my favorites. Amongst those, I have them set up for different shooting styles. I don’t have any problems remembering how to work the triggers for their particular application.

  Most all of my rifles are older Sheridans, so I don't have any problems with those . I do own a few others & have to mentally remind myself how to hold the springers for the best results. Many times , the first few shots go astray, then I remember.

A few shots and I am back in the game. I like the challenge of each gun, it spices up the shooting session.

I am with Kris on this... I like a variety.
If they all shot the same, it might get dull to me.
I enjoy the challenge of "remastering" a gun I have not shot in a long time.

But then I have a couple that if I am having a bad day I know will put the pellet right where I point it when I pull it out of the case.
Every... single... time.
