Greetings,
I'm wondering if there are any tricks to make the 392 easier to pump. As old and feeble as I've become is it nearly more than I can do to get past four strokes.
Thanks,
JDE

John, hold it as close to your chest as possible. One hand just forward of the breech & the other hand on pump handle to get as much leverage as possible. Also, keep the linkage pivot points & piston lubed.

A lotta good shooting can be had a four or five pumps! If you're target shooting or plinking, you shouldn't need more than that. If you are shooting at a varmint, then proceed to eight, if you prefer.

Thanks,
I appreciate the input. I'm actually looking for changes I can make to the gun as opposed to how I handle it.
Thanks again,

You could always add an extended billet lever arm for better leverage when pumping.

I’ve heard the 2 spring mod to the valve makes it a bit easier to pump, don’t know how much as i’ve never tried it.
Don’t have a link, but you may be able to google “ two spring valve mod to the Benji 392” or something like that?
As Dave said, the extended billet lever was designed just for that.

Thanks. I'll look into both.

It looks like the valve mod is the lower cost option by far. May not be the most effective but I'd be foolish not to try it first.
Thanks again for your help.

The valve mod will not greatly decrease the pumping effort.
Imagine the total force of 9 pumps will be equal to what you had to put into 8 pumps.
So each individual pump pump effort will be approximately 8/9 of prior pumping.
( example - say each pump took 18 pounds of force - new would be 16 pounds of force )

Okay,
So I did the two spring valve mod. Did not cut down the check valve (used a really short, light spring). Took a few coils off the original spring. Did not do the added o-ring to stretch the body. Difference in cocking effort is minimal. I didn't expect much. Ive lost about 5 or 6 fps at 4,5 and 6 strokes. Also minimal.
As it happens I've come into a hundred dollar windfall so I'll be ordering the long arm kit.
