The Older HW50 or the newer HW50s?  I think the only difference in the two is the Trigger and sight inserts if you don't get the Truglo sights.

I have the HW50s with the Truglo and love the sights.  I am no Air Gun expert and this is my first "adult" air rifle, but I did a lot of research before I bought this all around good springer.  I knew I didn't want a scope though, so this one with the fiber optic sights made it an even easier choice for my needs.  Also, I didn't want to invest in an air system so PCP's were out and I didn't mind some elbow grease in lieu of CO2.

I had one and wish I had never sold it! very very accurate! the only problem is the cocking arm needs the insert installed to keep the tube from being galled up, These are a very nice lower powered gun, but I think a detuned R9/HW95 is just as good and has no manufacturing issues, just my 2ct

The HW50S is definitely the one to choose (as opposed to the HW50) as it has the Rekord trigger; mine is .177 which I bought from James Maccari. Out of the box there was some spring twang and quite a bit of dieseling, but it was very accurate.  I gave it a lube tune, lightened the trigger pull weight, adjusted its first and second stage and installed a Maccari tune kit. I'm using RWS Superdomes which the gun likes a lot; yesterday I did some paper punching at a lasered 40 yards and from a supported standing position my best group was well inside half an inch, in fact, smaller than a pinkie fingernail.  I can't speak highly enough of the way this gun shoots. It is relatively easy to shoot accurately in part because it is low to medium power; mine develops 10.5fpe at the muzzle with the 8.3gn Superdomes. (But this is still plenty to dispatch most vermin at 45+ yards.)  The Rekord trigger completes the story; for the uninitiated the big screw adjusts the pull weight but you can also adjust first stage travel and the amount of 'creep' on the second stage. Mine is now how I like it, set to break at just under 1lb with the slightest bit of creep in the second stage - it breaks like glass.

I have the new model HW50S. It has been tuned by Rob Hawkins and it is a keeper. It has the best balance of power, recoil, weigh, and accuracy of any springer I have ever shot bar none.
