RWS 350 Magnum + heavy weight pellets
«

I have shot plenty of 8-10 grain pellets in my rifle and i get good accuracy and FPS .I have some heavier 11-16 grain pellets ordered and just wondered what to expect from them accuracy wise. I hope it will quieten it down a bit too. Is it hard on the spring shooting heavier pellets,i figured lighter pellets would do more damage than heavier ones.

I find the heavier pellet you use they lose power.
They tend to become a little more jumpy, I find the 10.5 grains awesome from crosman. Let us know it works out for you.

I shoot the jsb 10.2 out of mine. They carry more velocity down range than the 8.4. At pb range they are about 100 fps slower but at 28 yds they are almost the same velocity which give more fpe. Its actually pretty cool to chrony your guns at longer ranges. I would imagine going too heavy would be bad and hurt you velocity and range. Could be like shooting 10.65 gr out of my big cat. Just wasnt enough gun to be efficient with those pellets.

I wouldn't recommend anything over 11 grains in a .177 Springer.... even a Magnum springer....

I agree with rsterne. I have a Ruger Air Magnum. In my rifle, I shoot H&N Barracudas. I've tried heavier pellets, but the accuracy is not the same. The RAM is essentially a rebranded RWS or Bam B28 in .177 cal. I would stick with 10 grain pellets.

I thought about the new heavier pellets, but for the odds of damage to the spring powerplant, I decided to just stay with what works: the JSB or CP heavies. They're plenty strong in .177 Diana M52.

My diana 350 .177 carried 12 fpe with crosman ultra mags 10.5gr at 40 yards, chronied at 21, 30 and 40 yards. They pack a whallop.

My instincts tell me that shooting heavier pellets in a springer shouldn't damage the spring. Can anyone prove me wrong? I really would like to know!

It depends on the size of the spring wire! but the 350's should be ok with the heavier pellets IIRC they have a 130dia wire in them. any spring under a 128dia wire you shouldn't use anything over a 10gr pellet JMHO

I'd be curious about the 13.4g performance, vs. the 10.2g JSBs, real world results, chronied, downrange, not calcs based on just the muzzle speed. I wonder if there's appreciable gain.
Personally, that would be my upper limit on a .128+ spring...and even that's with much much reserve.
Pappa, the tuners can tell a spring that was damaged by too heavy a pellet. It tries to uncoil at it's natural frequency (speed), but is impeded by the excess resistance. It'll distort and develop a weak spot. Of course, after repeated abuse, they'll break. A pro could do a better job than I at explaining.

I agree with Mike that to heavy of a pellet will cause spring failure sooner but if you like shooting the heavier pellets and are prepared to deal with that that's something that's not an issue IMO springs and seals are maintenance items and if you able to perform this maintenance on them shoot to your hearts desire JMO
