Prusa Printers published a process for making lithopane photographs and it works pretty well.
He uses a free online utility to convert a photo to an STL file. The only setting he changes from the default setting is the thickness (2.4mm). He then imports it into the slicer and inserts a color change at 1.55 mm.
I did a couple today with the lower section in black and the upper in vanilla white which makes the print look old. They came out better than I expected. Here's the original taken at Old Faithful and the lithopane:

Thanks for posting this out there. I made my wife a birthday present using this info using a cheap light off the internet and then 3d molded a frame to connect them. Ill poat up some pics if I ever make it home from work
(my wifes birthday is today, so hopefully this shift will only be 30ish hours...ughhh) stupid Dell servers!
