Brocock magnum valve seat

Anyone ever succesfully get a metal valve to seal on a metal seat? The valve in my brocock is steel, on what looks like a heat treated seat, almost reminds me of heat treated 440. I dont think its removable, not that I need to. But for the life of me I cant figure out the material. And let me tell you this thing will hold air forever. And u can hand pump it no problem from totally empty. Looking at the valve under a 20x you can tell its been lathe turned, and not lapped. Im just now venturing into making my own valves and from all the other valves ive seen, this one stands out. It works great to, Im making 75 ftlbs on it with a super light hammer and a very short stroke. Its effortless to crack the valve.

Its down deep in the gun, and your not going to get it out I dont think. Its a brownish tint, definitely not plastic, could be a type of hard anodize on aluminum? I might contact aoa to see if they know. Im dying to find out!

Heres the valve and I think this might be the seat, if it is, thats for sure a plastic. Ive got the gun back together but tapping on the outside edge with a oring pic certainly “ sounds” like metal? Its so hard to tell. Someones got to know!

If the pic of the piece from Spares" is the same, it appears to be peek. it is widely used in the custom side of air gunning, but not as much in the manufacturing end. Sadly, as it is a super material.
For what it is worth, 440 stainless is a family of steels, Not a single type. I doubt seriously it could be used. Not even the softest of the 440's which is 440-A.

I agree with knife. It certainly looks like some form of PEEK. There are many different variations of it, and with different chemical properties. Think of it as a sort of "plastic alloy". There are some that have an almost metallic ring/feel to them. Great stuff!

Lloyd Sikes had limited success with steel on aluminum.... but the hardest material commonly used in airguns to work with steel is PEEK....

Now that i looked at it closely, its certainly not metal. it doesnt shine like metal. the shine that it does get is from polished peek-like around the edges.
stick a magnet to it.
