Electronic Targets

I am not sure if this is the proper gate to show these targets or not.  I just finished fabricating (4) more electronic targets, a gopher, squirrel, rabbit and bird.  They are self contained powered by (4) AA batteries.  No need to level the target and no reset cord needed.  With a fairly clean hit in the head kill zone, a set of high intensity red leds turn on.  With a hit in the body kill zone, a set of high intensity green leds turn on.  The leds stay illuminated for approximately 2 seconds and go back off.

Arduino?  Does it use an ultrasonic or audible sensor and then take the highest reading to determine closest proximity?

Hi Casey,  They actually use a striker pad behind each kill zone hole that activate a circuit that triggers the leds.

Frank,  Thanks.  I stared building these electronic targets 12-15 years ago when we had a local Field Target club. 
We were using the standard metal knock- down targets then.  We would spend many hours weed whacking the weeds and grass down for each shooting lane, sometimes up to 50 yards long and 6 feet wide.  Then make sure each Target was level.  Once in a while a reset string would still get hung up on a weed or something and cause problems. I just believed there must be a different way of doing it.  These targets are extremely reliable.  The batteries last well beyond what anyone would expect.  I made these four to be used at closer ranges as the head kill zones are pretty small, 5/16” - 3/8”.

Very very nice, well thought out and fabricated! Do the pellets collect inside the body?

Randall,  The pellets pretty much splatter out when they hit the paddle trigger.  It is 3/8” thick.  The target is open behind the animal other than the triggering mechanisms.

Hi AP, Here is a picture of the side.  I will be listing these electronic targets for sale on the Members Classified Gate in the next day or two.  I now have the led array shade hoods installed on all the targets.
