Maintenance in pcp

Since there are so many pcps out there, I cant speak for every one...but generally most are very maintenance free. Rubber o rings on a fill probe or bolt probe are most common and take cents and seconds to repair.  Other than those two (or a transfer port o ring in the barrel if your gun has one) I dont consider o ring replacement on a gun to be maintenance,  I consider that repairs since theres no time intervals where replacing all the o rings in a gun is ever recommended.  In comparison to a break barrel springer, pcps have basically no maintenance.

I just have the cheap stuff, 4 Marauders, Hatsan and Gamo Urban and when it shows up, a Kral Puncher semi auto. If I were to advise someone on the first PCP, it probably would be the Urban. It's a simple accurate lightweight gun. The only issue is the cost of magazine's.

Might be unrealistic.

They all rely on inxpensive o-rings to seal,and o-rings eventually degrade/harden/crack and leak. They are all going to leak sooner or later. Might go years...might leak tomorrow.  That's pretty much expected.

Problem: the rifle will need to be taken apart to get to  them. Some designs make that easier than others. I'm of the type that changes all the o-rings when I have the thing apart. Figuring if one leaked...and they all went in at the same time....then the others are close to leaking anyway.

(Would you take apart a gasoline engine to change one bad piston ring?)

I don't get upset the o-ring leaked...do sometimes wonder (and curse) at the needless complexity used in some designs.

Some of the PCPs I still  shoot were bought new 10-15 years ago.  Stuff leaks, you fix, get back to shooting.

If you are not inclined to DIY simple repairs,PCP'smay spend more time being shipped back and forth than they do being shot.

It's really rare to wear out a menchincal part (at least the ones that haven't been filed /drilled/lathed/ or otherwise weaked by modification).   I'm just not going to count the breakages when folks modded something only to find out they can't un-mod it.

FX and Daystate are great high quality PCP’s.

Fx is a beaty but from what i read from different  user of this forum, you have to get  more precision and skill to work on them..

Due to it's complexity, it is not on my list but it is a rifle that i like however..

I just had my FX Impact apart.  It's no more complexed than my Marauders are, in fact probably easier to service, and still just springs, hammer and valve operated, nothing different.   The thing the FX has different is more adjustability, and all of that is external.  I think an FX Streamline would do for you.  You can build one just like you like.  A gun that can be handed down for generations, too.

What kind of o-ring  would be a great candidate to replace  rubber o-ring

I have a complete kit of nitrile o-ring  on ebay.

Since i already had 3 QB modified rifle , i would like to keep them and wonder if i can find o-ring  that would be greater durability.

Weakest link: O-rings.

As for long term servicing....the metal parts could last "forever"....but the O-rings will give up sooner or later.

For most of us on this froum, taking apart and changing 0-rings is no big deal. For some, it is a big deal.

No harm/no foul....I won'twillfully work on the houses electrical system.....some won't work on plumbing...some won't work on "jack"...some fix everything.


But the "blue skys/all is well" period of PCP's is the life span of the sealing units (O-rings).

I would say the ability to tune the FX Crown internally and externally is more complex but only because they were the first to come out with it. They have all the same components of other Airguns.

Here is how you can run an FX Crown to a specific pellet with an internal hammer adjustment. Although I have done very little work on any airgun and I’m sure I will feel nervous when I do this, I feel confident I can do it.

The Crown is definitely the cats meow as far as I can see in the FX lineup and you pay for them too !!!

I was UNANIMOUS of not buying this one since i have watch ERNEST ROWE video ..
It is not in my league and i dont want to ruin a 1700$ gun trying to fix it...

My choice  is pretty much LOCKED ON THE AIRFORCE CONDOR SS...

Oh the Crown is out of my league comparing it’s abilities to mine. I am my rifles worst enemy when it comes to accuracy, slowly but surely I’m learning hope to be a better shooter. I may not ever be as good as the Crown but the journey is enjoyable. Looking forward to spend more time shooting when the weather cools off, then the end of the year I retire.
