1377 wood and steel rifle build with tootsie roll forearm

I usually don’t build these sorta things in summer due to having no time.  Today I have time!  A Father’s Day gift of doing whatever I want.

I’ve been wanting to build another pumper for a while but couldn’t justify another .22 build. So I figured I would use that justification to build a cool old school looking .177

Things I used for this build were a qb78 stock, steel breech, a chunk of maple for the forearm, borrowed a 2260 trigger from another project, wood lathe, die grinder, palm sander, circular saw, and a chop saw. I’m still looking for a barrel. 

The first thing I did was Inlet the qb stock to fit the 2260 trigger group. After I did that I chopped the stock right after the lug hole.

I then took a chunk of maple and set it up on my lathe which was a bit of a pain because I haven’t used in since my daughter was born 5 years ago. Rusty rusty wood turner.......

I inletted the forearm with a die grinder and a circular saw.

The die grinder is not the best tool to use but I’ve gotten so good with it it doesn’t matter for me.

The stock needs some re shaping as it was never meant for 13xx/22xx parts. The trigger group was sunken into the stock by a quarter inch.

Ofcorse after taking the material off why not sand the entire stock???

This is where it sits for now. I need to work on some of the fitment for the action to the stock.

It sits pretty good but a little more work will really make this thing awesome.

Any finish advise welcome!!!!!  I’ve never finished a stock before.

Just anchored the forearm to the pump handle. Looks pretty good.

Well I’ve been at it all day. I had planned to stop working on this hours ago but as soon as I sat down I got right back up.

I’m at a stopping point now. I have it pretty well together. I still need a .177 barrel but I tossed one of my 18 inch .22 for the time being.

I will absolutely post when I have it built!     I'm waiting on the .22 barrel from Crosman and the trigger kit from Baker.

I just finished my EscapeSS build, and I've finally completed the stock for my Theoben Mk2!  So ha!

Do I see a threaded stud sticking out of the tube there on your gun ?
If so how is it attached ?

I had to add a second hole through the stock behind the trigger guard for a screw there because those few threads in the valve are not enough.

A threaded stud attached to the tube like you'll find on any traditional American pumper ever has ( aside from a clamb shell receiver) will solve all of these issues.

Anyways at this point my gun is down as I need to start over with the stock because of a few issues with stock mounting.

The threaded stud? Are you referring to the thing sticking out on the back end of the main tube?  If so that’s just a power adjuster.  ( a hacked up one)


Yes the action needs anchoring at the rear of the tube. Because this stock isn’t a Crosman stock there is some meat missing on the stock back where I would typically drill for the anchor.

I made a bracket from a piece of steel that compensated for that. Opposed to adding more material to the stock and drilling.
