I decided to make my own stock for my disco.
I started with a Boyd's blank and started with a block of wood.

I forgot to take a pic before I started cutting.
For tools, I didn't use much, Table saw, hole saw, wood file mounted on my sawsall( worked awesome), drum sander mounted on a drill, dremel and sandpaper.
I started by drawing a ruff outline on the stock and then started cutting the big pieces with a table saw and sawsall.

Next up was using a hole saw to start the opening in the stock.

Here started with some chisels and decided that wasn't working the best, so I started with the sawsall and file.
I liked the sawsall because I could adjust the speed and I could shave off small amounts at a time. You can move the sawsall around shaving small amounts and shape as you go. That's how I did all the shaping except the handle. And tremendously faster than by hand.

More shaping.
Rather than focusing on one spot, I jumped all over the hand grip and butt area, keeping all the shapes working together. I would see a spot that needed to be worked a little more here and there and as you work on one spot it will show other areas that need to be shaped to work with other areas. The sawsall was great for this, it took off material at the perfect speed for this work.

Used the hole saw for the thumb hole and started shaping with the sawsall.

Started shaping the hand grip with the dremel.

Here I used the table saw to cut out a square grove, it's not as nice as a rounded bed but it holds the gun snugly on three sides.

For the trigger group I drilled out the opening and then smoothed it out with the sawsall and dremel.

Now it's ready for some poly.

I would recommend anyone with some woodworking ability and time and desire to do it. It's not expensive if you do screw it up and scrap it. It does take some time, I don't know how much time I spent on it but it was definitely worth it. To guess how much time spent would be somewhere around 15 to 20 hours.
I could have hand sanded it more than I did, There are quit a few small dings in it that I just didn't have the patients to sand out. I don't have much more patients than my two year old has.
Put on one coat of poly, then sanded.
Put on one more coat and sanded.
and then two more coats.

Very nice looking job. Did you have another thumb hole stock you were using as a guide? Regarding patience, I think 20 hours of sanding and shaping shows a LOT of patience.

I'm with Dave on that sawzall file. Very cool. What's the adapter gizmo you are using?

Thanks all.
The cheek weld was an area that I took the time to file a little and check, file some more and check until I got it to fit me perfectly.
I'm a lefty when it comes to shooting guns, bows and pool, (everything else is right handed) so I shaped every part to fit me perfectly. Something you can't get from a store bought stock.

Thanks, I was looking at Menards for files and other tools that would be useful and saw the sawsall thing. I'll take a pic of it and put it up here so all can see.
