I've removed the scope from my silver HW35E  and reinstalled her open sights.   The rifle that was on the verge of becoming an anchor has won my callused heart.  If I can see 'em, she will hit my 25 yard spinner spoons with CPDs at ~700 fps every time.   What's not to love about that? 

Next comes a refinished stock.🥰

That's what happened to me!  My Silver E (I call it the "Buzzer Gun") HW35 .177 has won back my heart as well.  It sits at the doorway to the porch and I shoot around 50 pellets a day (right now it is shooting HN Match .177) so fast to the steel you can't tell the difference between that and an R9 I've got!  I've underestimated the accuracy and durability of the .177 HW35E way BIG!  And I didn't notice how ACCURATE it was with OPEN sights until I put in that DOT affixed atop the thread post!  I line up the vertical with that lower part of the front sight and misses to left or right are essentially Eliminated!  I love this rifle, and still await the next one in BLUE from AOA arriving on Friday!

I am all behind you on this return to the first romance!

Not surprised to hear that, Greg. I'm a big fan of HW open sights. About as good as it gets for that type of sight.

After removing the scope, I was sighting her in at 10M.  Once I thought I had it about where it should be, I took a shot at the spoons.  I spun one with the first shot.  I not only was I amazed, but I was also ecstatic.  That rifle was just about to go to the dump.  Now that I've figured out her secret, I'm gonna' refinish the stock and make her real purty.

Now, you have inspired me to (once again) put sights on one of my HW's (just not sure which one yet), and try using it for starling control.
My aging eyes have made it exceptionally difficult for me to shoot with open sights, but I bet I can see a starling well enough to do the job at my starling range. Hmmmm.....now for deciding which gun.

Thank you, Lizzie.  Please notice that I said that I could hit 'em IF I can see 'em.  That gun just doesn't like scopes.

Good going Greg! As has been mentioned HW makes good set of factory irons... Peeps are a great choice for these rifles as well , especially a 35 , giving one a long sight radius.

Merciful heavens, what a difference a day makes.  3 for 3 this beautiful morning right out of the shute.  I'm so glad I tried her with open sights before throwing her out.  This rifle has come from despised to a favorite overnight.

This really has me curious why you were having issues with a scope. After watching the AEAC review, I'm wondering if there was enough droop to play havoc with your POA vs POI.

I'm still up in the air on what my next HW will be, and let's face it, after I discovered how great the R7 is there was never *not* going to be a next, but the 35 is right up at the top with the shooting I like to do.

You may have answered your own question.  The open sight attaches to the barrel while the scope is mounted eewhere.

Yes, my scope sighted R7  may be my most favorite air rifle.  Her accuracy is second only to my HW97K.

I'm convinced some guns have their harmonics thrown off by putting a scope up on top. My D38 was very accurate with peep sights. When I put a scope on it, I haven't been able to get it to group well at all. It can be heart breaking. I'm going to try some barrel bending on it to see if that will help.

Lizzie, try some peep sights with a LARGE rear aperture. People think that the rear aperture needs to be small for accuracy, that is not true. "Ghost ring" type sights can give you the ability to shoot quite a bit more accurately than notch style sights and are easier on older eyes.

I am sure you have a gun in the 7-8# region, around 13 ft-lbs yield. Those are ideal to shoot with iron sights, specially offhand, because they are not so "twitchy as fly-rods" on the target.
