Are old FWB 300s reliable enough to shoot regularly? Are parts relatively available?

The answer is yes on reliable. Mine was made in the 1970's. Shot by a competitive shooter for years and I have had it for 17+years. Accuracy beyond belief. No maintenance by me at all beyond shooting cleaning pellets through if and occasionally a cotton swab. One hole groups just bigger than the pellet at 20yds. .25-.40"at 35yds.
Parts are available if you need them. Many people on this site buy them, tune them, and shoot them forever.

These guns have persevered all the years gone by. Used in many clubs and Taken abuse but still shoot accurate.
Build like tanks, super good barrels and build during the days of good materials and QC.
The only thing these guns need is the front buffer and breech seal along with a new spring and they are good to go for years.
Cast iron piston rings is usual still good. Consumables are available. Hard parts may not be as lucky but with do many made one might find those that have rebuilt them for years some hard parts. Rarely have I run into the need on rebuilds for hard parts.
Simple sledge system. Accurate guns and do not let the 6fpe hold you back. Those guns use everything they have in such a short stroke gun and shoot much farther than 10m's. I've had and rebuild many but I passed my last one on. Regrets, always! 💀

IDK, looks pretty purdy to me
. Found this 300S Universal photo on a Russian site I believe. Looks like they added a barrel shroud.
But I get what you're saying Frank. Utilitarian looking maybe compared to others?

I rebuilt over a dozen that belonged to ONE GUY from his collection, in all various conditions. Some looked like they had been shot a zillion times, and some looked to have hardly ever been shot.
Taking them apart, side by side, you couldnt tell the difference from the insides. The piston rings sealed fine and made full power in every one of them.
The only issues I have seen are the plastic trigger carrier breaking, and the seals crumbling. That's really just more of an age thing I believe.
I've had a few myself, but down to just one Mini at the moment. Other than the couple plastic parts, I'm not sure you could ever wear one out.

If you want one and feel like shopping, I STRONGLY recommend contacting Joe Rhea. (cyclops) he is a Member here and has a Youtube channel.
He has some contact with old club guns...

As bad as I hate to mention American airgun classified there is a seller from m the UK. CAREL who is an outstanding guy to deal with. I have bought from him as Joe has. I even do some repairs for CAREL that arrive with issues shipped to the USA. COMPLETELY SAFE transaction and takes PP. CAREL always has guns up on AAC. JIM E from the USA IS another good seller of 10m guns.
I rebuild the FWB300/S, D75, Walther 10m guns amoung others as many know.
Just finished a D75 For Joe and a D48 for another. With several others sitting in line plus others coming. D54 is now on the bench.
Joe just bought a lefty FWB300S from CAREL and the D75 I just finished also Joe bought from CAREL. 💀
Get one while you can. Lol🇺🇸

Thanks but I'm just me and a straight shooter.
I just do my best with what I have and all the knowledge learned over the years.
I've had an outstanding life of good and hard knocks.
I always except new ideals. I test them when I dare but what has worked for years is not broken so not all we read is true.
There are many guns that need little or nothing out of the box that make shooters.
Thanks again🎯

Bought a 300 S years ago from Chucks firearms in Atlanta (Buckhead). Other than cleaning on occasion never had an issue with it. Its still the best shooter for its age and still keeps that .04 c-t-c, its still shoots better than my skill level.

Bought (and sold) an old 300s that Joe Rhea brought back from the grave, and still have a 300 (not 300s) from Carel that is minty. Both shot the same. Their life might be limited, but it's probably not until a million plus pellets have gone down the tube - and that's not intended to be an exaggeration.
I missed this thread in early June somehow, and reading it now, it was a bit jarring to see all the posts from Fang. He rebuilt my 300 shortly after I got it, and even posted about it on his forum because he couldn't believe how pristine it was. Sad that he's gone, but, at the same time, it's nice to see part of him live on here. And in who knows how many guns out in circulation.
I think I might have to pull out that 300 this evening...
