JSB Exact 50.15 grain pellets sorted by weight (4 tins)

I took the liberty of sorting these JSB 50.15 grain pellets by weight in preparation of my FX Impact 30 caliber arrival tomorrow.  Some are saying these are not as accurate as the 44.7 grain JSBs, but arrived first to the door.  With my typical hunting range less than 100 yards, and more like 50 yards or less, these should do well.

After sorting these, I am not quite sure where the "Exact" comes into play.  Maybe they meant in accuracy at the intended target?

I'll explain what's going on in the chart:

Starting in the "Master List" column, you can see the total weight spread for the four tins was 2.06 grains (48.28 to 50.34).  The total count is 610 pellets, so they tossed in a couple of extras.

Looking at the "Left Row" column are the ones that fell below the primary weights of 49.xx grains, and are the 48.xx base weights with a total spread of 0.70 grains and a total count of 52.

In the "Main Sort" column are the primary 49.xx weights with a total spread of 0.98 grains (49.00 to 49.98), and with a total count of 538.  You can see how those broke down in 0.20 grain increments in the "49.xx count" areas, and is how they are placed back in the tins.

The last "Right Row" column are the ones above 49.xx grains and are the 50.xx grain pellets.  20 total with a spread of 0.34 grains (50.00 to 50.34), also broken down in the 50.xx counts area into 0.20 increments.

I am fairly happy with these tins being mostly all in one base weight (49.xx), but are far short of the advertised 50.15 grain.  There are only two that could be possibly be labeled at that specific weight.  These are a lot better than what the MKIIs were, but only 4 tins compared verses 8 tins of those (see my previous posts).

I'll give them a whirl and see how well they do for my needs with the 700mm pellet liner.  Worst case for me is that they will be melted down and recast for my .357 Slayer slugs I am already setup for.

Not yet.  If they don't shoot well enough I'll dig deeper.

Yep kinda bugs me too. When using a decimal and two digits to the right of the decimal, tolerance is implied to be in the .05 range.

That's why when referring to JSB pellets, I have to type 50.(bs).

Have to admit they shoot well, but .00 stuff kinda sticks in the craw of my throat.

Paying money to liars does not encourage truth.

I can certainly relate to your frustration, and is why I feel the need to sort lately.  I will add that things were looking up for the first three tins with only a few off from the main 49.xx base weight.  It was when I hit that fourth tin that the smiles went away.  Most of the 48.xx came from that tin.

I am not sure how much I'd pay for the JSB treatment that nets 7.87 gr pellets destined for the 200 count black boxes with gold labels, but I can tell you I'd pay more for sure...especially if the size was also more consistent. +/-.001 is what is called out on weight. I should get some to feed my 777 anyway at some point.

It's possible that JSB has a 2 grain tolerance.  Having cast many pellets and slugs myself, that would be a good goal for them.  If they can do better and still mass produce, that would be something.  I have grown to appreciate what they can do, but it doesn't mean I won't still sort the JSBs for better results.

I am assuming you possibly could be referring to the FX hybrids 100 count boxes???  If so, I have checked some of those in .25 cal.  They have really close tolerances and are very impressive in that regard.  Too expensive for my frequent shooting though in the backyard.

I agree, manufacturers stating pellet weight to 2 decimals is a joke, they can't even hold the weights to within 1/10th of a grain (and often not within a grain in the larger calibers)....
