It seems eveyone is out of the Nomad ll but when I looked at Amazon another one that looked identical is a Tuxing TXET061. Is this the same just rebranded or a cheaper knockoff?

If you can wait and watch the pricing everyday. Be ready to pull the trigger when the time comes. Most of these machines sell for 1/3 less once a new shipment arrives. The Yong Heng I bought a few weeks ago was $400+, then when the shipment arrived the price fell to $225 delivered. I offered $200 and they accepted $210. I see the price is back up to $400 +.

People on another forum have suggested that for the amount that I shoot a scuba tank may be the way to go. So, what size tank and fittings would I need to fill my Mrod to 3000 psi? Cost?

With a tank, you'll need to load it up and take it to a scuba shop or possibly a local fire station to get filled. With a compressor, plug it in and fill. No travelling. And you WILL shoot more when you don't have to hand pump.

A Scuba tank won't cut it for filling an Mrod to 3000 psi. You need a 4500psi SCBA tank. The tank size depends on how much you shoot, and how easy it is to get filled. Before buying an SCBA tank, you need to figure our for filling it near you. Some Scuba shops aren't equipped to fill to 4500 psi, and a lot of fire stations won't fill other peoples tanks due to liability reasons. In the US, to have someone fill a tank for you, the tank needs to be DOT certified, be properly hydro tested, and not be expired. This leaves out the inexpensive CE rated tanks on Ebay, and the expired tanks (greater than 15 years old).

I will be the second one to mention the AV Nomad ll, hand pumping was not an option for me, I have plenty of scuba tanks and getting them filled was not a problem until the hurricane made a mess of everything in my area. So my solution was the Nomad ll, I have had it for about a year now and no problems with it. It does have a water separator in it and also comes with an outlet filter as well. I am able fill guns up to 4300 psi with no moisture issues. It is portable, runs on 120v or 12v dc, weighs about 20lbs, built in cooling fan so no need for water cooling attachments, does not need a compressor for filling assists, you can preset the air pressure to whatever fill pressure the gun needs and it will automatically shut off, no more dragging tanks around when hunting, comes with a carrying case to keep it clean and store the accessories. Just plug in and fill the gun. It is not designed to fill tanks, only for the gun's cylinder or tank. I caught mine on sale for $650 from PA. I can shoot anywhere at anytime and never run out of air for my guns.

both come with power converters

I had kind of decided on a Nomad 2 but for the difference in price the CX2 is worth considering. I'll be curious on peoples experience with that compressor.

For the $380 it is on Amazon, I’d go with the branded Hatsan Spark for the same price or less.

There is also the improved CX3 from JSAR/FDAR/AirgunArcheryFun for about $500.

I will throw in my vote for the Nomad II, buy some silicone oil with it as it is the lube for the system. I have the hand pump, AV home compressor, tanks along with the Nomad II. I had a life change recently and I no longer have the ability to use the AV home compressor & tanks, it is in storage until things change for me. Now I carry the Nomad II with me out on my hunting trips, it fills the gun to 4350PSI with no problem even at 4000 feet. Mine is about 8 months old. I use the jeep battery with the engine running when filling multiple guns in a row. The Nomad II was a good investment IMO for my needs. Always buy some compressor rupture disks with any compressor you buy! You may never need them but if one does blow it will not mess up your activities.

I have considered the Spark but unlike the Nomad 2 it doesn't come with the 120v adapter, auto shutoff or the handy drain.

I wanted to go with the Nomad 2 too, but for a couple hundred less, I got the Spark and 120V supply, and decided I could live without the extra water drain or auto shutoff.

In using it, the purge valve seems mostly sufficient, and the rifle fills in 3.5 minutes from 800 psi to 3100 psi so the auto shutoff turned out to not be nearly as important to me either. Besides, knowing me, I’d keep a close eye on it while filling anyway

If I had found the unbranded version of the Spark with power supply for $200, I’d most likely have gone that way rather than the Hatsan Spark and power supply for $400.

Of course, your needs might lead to a different decision

I don’t recall anything negative; apparently the only differences the branded ones have are the stickers and the one year warranty.
