Compressor for occasional use

At 70 years old I am really tired of using the hand pump. I recently purchased a 0.25 cal Mrod and I have to tell you, pumping that thing up with a hand pump is a PIA! So, I'm looking for suggestions for a compressor.  I would like one that can run on either 12v dc or 120v ac and does not need water for cooling.  I don't shoot a great deal, maybe 1 tin (200 pellets) a month. Price wise I would like to stay under $700. The Benjamin Traveler and the similar Hatsan look like possibles.  Anyone???

I’m pleased with my Hatsan Spark.  Total was around $400 for compressor and power supply.

I agree. This is a good thread to read through; lot of info.

Myself, I'd consider both your options. I haven't heard too much about the Traveler...hopefully someone who owns one can chime in and give a brief report of it's performance.

The Shoebox option is good too, but last I heard, the price went up to $1200 or something. That, and the setup for it isn't nearly as trouble free as the smaller compressors. Don't get me wrong, it's a great booster. At 70, though...I don't think BassMan is going to enjoy setting up two compressors for each shooting session.

For a Marauder, and for occasional use, I think the two smaller compressors should work just fine. I doubt either of them would be overworked.

 I have a New Warrior compressor, same as spark, bout from Wes at airgun archery fun. So far it has done its job, with mainly weekend use for almost a year.

I am 75 this year and when I want to fill a tank, the only waiting period is for the pancake compressor to build up to pressure.
Setup?
You mean plug in and turn on?
I will be 75 this year and not many on this forum below my age can keep up with me.

No, Frank...not everyone is like you, and sure, maybe not everyone can keep up with you.  Frankly, I don't care what altitude you hunt at or what you hunt; this thread's not about you.  It's about BassMan looking for something simple to fill his rifle. Stop thumping your chest for a second and read.

The Shoebox is a wonderful contraption, but requires a different set up. I'm glad I don't have to repeat the process for every shooting session. My SB and my pancake aren't set up together, so every time I want to run it, I need to pull out all 4 components (table, tank, SB and pancake). I'm not quite sure that's the simplicity BassMan is looking for.

I'll pass on your idle threats for now. I did not personally attack you nor berate your suggestion about the SB; I simply made an observation about BassMan's age and a deduction of how he does not enjoy pumping, which led me to conclude that lugging around and setting up items that are 3-4 times as heavy as a hand pump would not be his cup of tea.

You, however, are admonishing me to watch what I say lest I open pandora's box? Come now...be fair. And while you're at it, I'm sure an apology to BassMan is in order, because what I read from your response sure makes it seem like you're making very light of his own challenges.

I'm wondering if I should buy one for backup. Sure, my Spark is slow on the fill...but for simplicity, it's quite hard to beat. Its Iight, runs off of a 110v power supply and a 12v battery. No water setup either.

That Shoebox and pancake is going to take a decent sized Inverter to run them both don't you think? Plus I would imaging since he wanted 12v he is likely going to put in some kind of vehicle. Can't imagine moving a complete shoebox setup back and forth.

Bill it uses grease instead of oil though but really the same compressor.

My Vevor (YH knock off) has been doing the job for me. I've had it for 2 years or more (guessing). I fill guns directly and use the large size Folgers container for water. If, by chance, the water gets to hot just dump it out and refill it.... that don't happen too often depending on how many times I fill the gun in a session. Typically I rotate my guns in shooting sessions.... PCP, pumpers, thumpers and C02. If I take a PCP on a 'walk a bout' I rarely use more than a mag or two. We don't shoot nearly as much as we used to but being 'air independent' just makes life so much easier when we do.

90% of the compressors are made in China I think, that other 10% are probably $3K to buy one, no way I'm going to pay that kinda money for a compressor.  I love my F10 but they're not for sale anymore and finding one is probably as hard as finding hens teeth !!!

I am with you.
I got a great deal on my F10 when they went on sale and then another 10% when Tom’s wife asked for some identification for the credit card purchase. I, of course scanned the retired military ID into the order.
You do see F8’s come up for sale on the AA from time to time, though..
