hammer travel

how does one go about measuring hammer travel?
my thought is from face of hammer fully cocked back to the end of the valve stem.
or is it from fully cocked back to the max it can go till it his the valve stop?

also does anyone have an idea what the valve spring force is on the gauntlet .25 cal poppet in pounds?
or how does one go about measuring a spring to determine the above?

IMO .. conversations on hammer stroke is THAT DISTANCE the hammer travels from a COCKED ready to fire position to when it contacts POPPET stem.

The Lift / travel inward of the poppet I don't consider as part of the stroke being the valve has already opened and this " over travel is required " as part of the sequence.

Bolt action...so direct measurement without take-down is possible.  Side levers make it much more complcated as you'd have to figure out the compound linkage.

Lift the bolt and gently move it back until you feel it contact the striker cocking pin.
Mark the bolt's place with a pencil line on the receiver.
Cock the rifle and ease the bolt  forward slightly until you know the sear has just enegaged/holding the striker.
Mark that with another pencil line.
Distance between the pencil lines is the stroke.

Hard to get a true reading of the spring force without tooling or take down....can get a "kind of" reading with a luggage scale (one of those things folks weigh their suitcases on) but you have to watch carefully to read the weight at the moment of sear engagment.

Given one more number (the actual weight of the striker) could figure out a decent estimate of force.

i know my particular gauntlet. 25 cal has a 58 gram striker/hammer from factory. also has hajimotos stk kit installed. so definitely smaller, lighter spring than factory.
i kinda figured it was full cock to just touching poppet stem.
