Shooting .452 through the .50

I have a lot of 230grn truncated cone boolits that I cast using wheel weights. They measure .454 as cast. I picked up some Thompson center .50 sabots for .452 bullets while at Gander over the weekend. I have heard people have tried these with minimal result but figured what the heck.
You will need to clean the barrel once done as the plastic leaves crud in it. I have recovered several sobots on the opposite side of my bullet trap, which means the sabot is not separtaing from the bullet and traveling through the target. What was the target you ask? Only a box filled with damp sand. In fact the rounds traveled through 12" of sand to exit the opposit side. At 10 yards the accuracy was one ragged hole. I'll do some real accuracy testing this afternoon, this set was for crony numbers. So here they are.

2 488
3 467
4 483
5 473
6 473
7 464
8 463

Here is what I was shooting. .490 RB 178 grn at right
So they shoot 4 mils low at 35 yards with a little more than an inch spread although these where at the low end of the usefull preassure curve. I'll try again later.
While the Round Ball shoots 1 mil high at the same range spread is just under an inch not counting shot 3 which is way off to the right.
That one was all me.
The round ball blew out the backside of the box, sand and all. We're goina need a bigger
boat
box.
I did recover 2 of the TC from the crony test and a sabot that entered the box. They are sitting on the log. The other sabots where found in the target area. Never had to police my plastic before.
