My Hatsan .25 flashpup seems to be a air hog

My hatsan spark compressor showed up so I filled to around 2900 psi in the 25 flashpup 2 magazines later it's darn near in the yellow about 100 bar.  It shoots. One ragged hole for 10 shots using jsb match king Diablo 25.39 gr pellets. Kind of figured I'd get more shots in the power range than 20. My Hatsan flash will give 30 shoots from 200 bar to 150 bar

Wow Paul, I got mine to shoot about 40, I cronied it at 820 fps and my .25 gets about 36 but I dialed it back to 780 fps
I just ordered the Regulator from Amazon to put in the .25, I'm not worried about the .22, I'll probably sell it soon since I got 2 new guns.

Without vel./energy figurtes,really can't tell what the efficency is....basically it's a ratio between energy and air use.  Regulated,nonregulated....it's still air used for the energy produced.

But I suspect you are right....it is an air hog....so far,most Hatsans (and other brands as well) are set up that way out the box.

Speed/energy evidently sells airguns better than air use/shot count.

First thing most high powered PCPs  post about is the power...first thing a low powered PCP buy post about seems to be boosting power.

Shot count seems to be a later concern (if at all).

10 shots 25 yards off of my lead sled no wind calm 76 degrees I'm happy with the accuracy just wanting 30 shots rather than 20

I had mine cranked up just about full tilt. Launched 25gr JSBs at 940, and I got 20 shots from 200 down to 150.

Then I goofed it up. Tried fixing it, and it went from 20 shots to 10. Chrono speed went from 940 to 900. Lol...that sure was an interesting time. No compressor or tank, only hand pump. 

Semi-fixed it; 20 shots are using up about 60BAR and cruising at 928. I'll take it. Lol.

My second .22 Bullboss is a dragon. She'll launch a 28gr slug at 974 and stack them in the same hole at 30. Highly modified and I have her turned up just about full power. Maybe I can get a 4-5 more FPE, but I don't think that'll matter, so I leave it as is. That one uses up 50BAR for one clip.

Lol...only one of my rifles will give you more than 20 shots, and that's if she turned down (which she is). The rest are dedicated hunters.

I've also been debating whether or not to sell my entire collection and order a FX Impact MKII with 4 different barrels.

Yeah that's a nice group Howie.

See if they're shooting at the same speed first. After that, you can start looking into orings in the barrel/breech or the probe (if your FP has them).

I'm not sure if your Flash platforms have that BS hammer debounce that's similar to the Boss. That one was annoying to sort out.

Have two (Flash and Flashpup)....both listed as .25's.
  We don't know the actual velocity/energy of either.   Don't know the pressure range of the Flash's 30 shots.  Do know the pressure range of the Flashpup's 20 shots. The air volume being about the same.  Same basic "guts" in either rifle.

So it 20 really more air hoggish than the 30 shots?

Likely it is....but maybe not as badly as it seems...to find out, it's going to take a chronograph.

How's your relationship with that Flashpup going? I remember a while back you said you weren't impressed with all the hoopla surrounding the bullpup platform.

No complaints about power or accuracy.
It shoots as well as any other good PCP.
Short but heavy (and a bit awkward).

Other than being shorter, can't think of anything I was doing that it did better.

Good to hear you guys have a better relationship. Last time you sounded so underwhelmed.

I thought about buying one to see how I'd like that rear bolt/sidelever action...but instead spent just about three times as much on a rear sidelever rifle.

It blows.

Definitely get that chrony and then check that you have the hammer or whatever you wish to tweak set right. Bob gave excellent explanation of the hammer adjustment procedure that will help with air usage and efficiency. Hi Fred,

From what I have read, it depends on if you have a wood or synthetic stock and build date. I have a Flashpup .25 Wood (Air Reservoir 04/2018) and ordered mine direct from Huma-Air (Trenier was OOS) and if I remember right the total cost was just slightly cheaper anyways ($110).

Was shipped fairly quick but that was before everything hit the fan.

Just to be fair...and "picky"....more shots does not always mean better air use...but it seems common to use the idea of more shots as being less of an air hog.

Regulation does give more uniform shots, somewhat lower power than non-regulated can give, but runs over a wider pressure range to do it.

If the real goal is more shots, don't care about the air use or max. power, then regulation is the best/least work solution (not that is as simple as it seems to get one working right).


YEah...I know...can do various things to get the power back up on a regulated rifle....but if you did the same kind of things to the non-regulated rifle, could boost it's power up as well.
