Possible "Snake Charmer" Idea

While I was on Thingiverse, (search "crosman")  I noticed a bunch of 357 conversion parts- to convert a Crosman 357 to shoot nerf darts...  Now hear me out- What if the cylinders and barrel were lined so that Gamo or Crosman 1100 shot shells could be used?  Would that work?  Here's a link:

I kinda feel like it would work with some modifications...  Would probably be easier to build than a 22xx based gun... 

Of course, that's the other idea- a 22xx or SSP-250 based gun where I can load either Gamo or Crosman shot shells (not both though)...  I'd really rather go this route, since more power could be made.  Thinking about it now, I'm not sure if a 357 based gun would be powerful enough... Can the 357 even be modified for a bit more power?!

I converted a 357 to pcp, ran it at 2000 psi and modded everything.. Not much to be gained, the hammer mech and valve are very litmited.. But i do like your idea, maybe a longer barrel , smooth bore, and a 3d printed mag from thingie bored out to .250-.300 .

That should do it!  Last fall I was going out to walk the dog. I thought there was a toad under the last step, Until I saw the black forked tongue flicking out. My right foot was hovering over a Texas Diamond Back, only 6 inches away.


We have a Toad here that is the very image of a Rattle snakes head, right down to the wide poison sacks. I freeze every time I walk up on one in the woods here. you never know which it is at first.


I now carry a NAA .22 with snake shot, or a 1911 with snake shot. Very good insurance.


Being diabetic, a rattler bite would almost surely cost a leg. Or worse!

Rob M- Only problem would be the clip isn't long enough...  It's an idea though!  That modded pistol of yours looks sweet!!  I could just modify the 357 to run remote too...  But there's still the issue of power, and whether or not there's enough of it...

there was a 3357 paintball gun many years ago ,

i think a a 357 177 gun could be modeified to be similar.
 As for the mag and depth , I think the best way to make tiny shot shells would be 3 d printing the cups , or making some kinda hot glue mold where you could make a dozen at a time. ( the shotshells , were they store bought would exceed the gun price in a day )

Check out this pistol, I bet it could be modified to shoot the 1100 shotshell with the pellet shell modified. It is still a pre-order gun but it looks like it has potential.

Is there a current source for trapmaster shells? Made a copy of a CB shotshell breech a bunch of years back, with shot it might make a good "clean the pigeons out of the barn" tool.

Screwwork-  I've been eyeing those, and I've been thinking about getting some of the pellet cartridges and some gamo shells to compare sizes.  It might work!  But there again, what about the power?  CO₂ replica guns aren't known for their power...  That's really the only thing I'm worried about.  But man, a revolver would be awesome for quick follow-up shots!!

Gippeto- I don't know of any good source of trapmaster shells other than ebay.  Even then, they don't pop up too often.  For either of the shell brands, I've been considering making copies in brass as a "simple" lathe project.

Daisy actually tired years back with a co2 pistol (single shot)  called the "Critter Gitter"...although there were only a very few actually sold.....and it wasn't much of a critter getter so far as power.

That's what I'm most concerned about, and why I lean more towards the SSP-250 idea...

You would have to look at choking the barrel to help keep the pattern somewhat tight for any kind of distance.
I can't remember who was making them, but there are aluminum replicas of the gamo shells for reloading online.
I thought I would be getting nice patterns out of my viper, but they start spreading as soon as the bunch passes the muzzle. It doesn't help that the number of pellets it contains is so low, like 15 or less.

Tom , i did more reasearch on the Hdr50.. the valve is bigger, inline , and more volume  than an action pistol.. In this case youre starting out with 8 fpe , 50 cal mags , etc etcc.. if you added a longer barrel , lets say a 6 inch tube , 10 fpe should be easy.. heres the teardown

I actually remember those...lol. I live an hour or so from Crosman. Worked for a painting company that repainted metal office furniture using an electrostatic spray process. We did a demonstration run for them in 1987?? and the boss's sons being into paintball somehow talked Crosman into half a dozen of those. Got paid actual cash for the night's work and the laugh yourself silly part of watching the 3 idiots shooting each other in the parking lot at the company shop trying them out when they showed up.

That umarex is interesting... 

I had a thought- maybe with those .50 cal cylinders- maybe load them similarly to those old single action cap and ball revolvers-  No need for a shell, the cylinder IS the shell...  Maybe?  I dunno, is that a stupid idea?  I wish the umarex had a hammer so as to be able to shoot single action...

what id do is make shot shells to fit the mags of gun.. So some thin wall .500 o.d tubing loaded with wadding, glue ,  and buckshot.
i can see your idea too , but seems time consuming , and no way to retain the shot in the chamber as its rotating. making shot shells is almost inevitable.
