hmm does this seem normal...

I'm looking for the best pellet for m r9. It has a vortek kit in, but not the seal. I have tried jsb exact 8.4, jsb exact heavy 10.5, jsb express 7.9, cph, cphp, and crosman ultra mags. The best accuracy at 18 yards has been Kodiak Match 5 shots into a bit less than a 1/2" group from a seated FT position, and a little bit more then 1/4" with H&N Baracuda Match pellets. Problem is that they both have a speed of about 670.1 fps for the Baracuda's and 676.5 fps for the Kodiak Match pellets...about 10.3 FPE
This all seems a bit low powered. The shot cycle is very nice, so I am not really that unhappy, but I do wonder why it's so slow....
As I want to use this for my backyard feather hunter, I was looking for around 12 FPE or so...
Any insight or advice is recommended..
Thanks,
A

Don't know about the FPS ,but I can tell you that the H&N Baracudas and the beemans are the same pellet. H&N makes them for Beeman.
The FPS could just be the fit in the barrel.
Nice R9!

I don't know what the FPE of a R9 is, but my RWS 34 was shooting them around 700 fps only getting around 12 fpe out of it and it gives 15 fpe with 7.9 gr cphp.
You may need to change the seal, also those pellets are probably a little heavy for the gun.

My R9 .177 likes Beeman FTS and Predators. H&N FTT are supposed to be the same pellet as the Beeman but they are not as accurate. Not a big difference, but noticeable to me. Did you install the Vortek kit yourself? I sent my R9 to Tom at Vortek and when I got it back it was shooting jsb 7.9 at 952 fps, right around 16 fpe. I would put the seal in and see if it makes a difference. Your fps seems low

The 10gr pellets are to heavy! the speed you are getting is about right with that weight, also the lead mix that is used in the H&N and JSB's cause more drag than the harder CPHP's that's why the CP's shoot faster and their weight, which is a no brain er on the weight but the harder pellets have less drag, have you tried lubing your pellets? sometimes it will help improve accuracy and velocity

Yeah those speeds do sound down for the pellet weight range you have posted about. 800~850 would be acceptable for the match pellets. The 10g pellets are a little much for the R9 long term.
Did you do the work yourself? Was there supposed to be spacers installed behind the spring? I would also be suspect of the condition of the seal. JMO.

John I think the 14fpe 48/52 numbers are okay. That's where I'm at. I don't think that the full power spring and seal alone is going to UP the numbers alot, over a good stock .128 spring and good seal. If it's that much more powerful, I'm not sure I could COCK it! Let alone control it !!!! LOL
