Benjamin 392 accuracy question

I have a Benjamin 392pa that for the most part I love. I shoot a 2-7×32 long eye relief scope. I was getting pretty tight groups at 10-13 yards, usually less than a dime using jsb heavies. All of a sudden over the last 2 days I will get a good group then all of a sudden get 2 or 3 bad groups, pellets going high, pellets going right. Tonight I was unable to shoot a good group to save my life. Two pellets would go practically in the same hole then all of a sudden they are going all over the place. I did remember that I had not oiled the pump head for I while so I took a shot in the dark and oiled it. The next group I shot was around 0.3 inches dead center all 5 shots. Is it possible that just oiling the pump head fixed my problem?

Lack of pump lube can cause erratic pressures............
Also may try cleaning the barrel.

You can lead a man to water, but you can't keep him from urinating in it.

I thought about doing a cleaning, but after getting such a good group after the oil, I think I will see how it groups today after work. I don't clean airguns unless absolutely necessary. I think I read that somewhere, or maybe I'm just lazy.😁

Tim McMurray recommends making sure that things look "moist" with lube. Not dripping wet, but moist on the pivot points of the pump arm & the piston arm. A few drops after/before shooting on those key points. Of course, always store your rifle with a few pumps in it.
Lubrication:
EVERY TIME YOU TAKE IT OUT TO USE IT YOU WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THE LEVER PIVOTS ARE MOIST WITH SECRET SAUCE. You'll get a 1.75oz bottle of Secret Sauce with every Steroid purchased or upgraded.
Don't overdo it, a few drops at the front pivot & rivet is all you need on those two. The pivot that connects the lever link to the piston end that guides it is a porous piece of steel. Put 6-8 drops of Secret Sauce on that pivot as the guide end of the piston acts as a storage of oil so a film is laid down on the tube each pump stroke. All else will get taken care of by blow through.
Never put lubricant in the air hole. Do NOT use firearm cleaning solvents or lubricants anywhere on the gun. Rem Oil & Barricade provide a good external wipe down oil. I use Rem Oil as it has proven to be one of the best rust inhibitors. Don't put your guns away with salty paw prints all over it. When you take it back out the steel parts will be all rusty.

Well I shot two groups after work, and they were terrible. Like pull your hair out terrible, so I stopped being lazy and cleaned the barrel, and proceeded to shoot 3 5 shot groups that were way less than a dime in size. So yes you do have to occasionally clean an airgun barrel. Big surprise.😁

Damon, just keep your 392 lubed & a couple of pumps when stored. You should be okay.

No problem there Dave. I also will be taking some of the shooting time away from the Benjamin, as I have a xisico xs 12 on the way. I had stepped away from airguns for a while, so I have to rebuild my collection slowly. Once I have the xs 12 The wear and tear on the Benji should drop considerably.
