Recently got a .177 Sortie. I’ve read some interesting stuff from Thane here on GTA. Any seasoned Sortie .177 shooters have any thoughts for newcomers?

Rion,
That's the Hatsan PCP semi-automatic pistol. You may be a pioneer, treading on new territory here. I know nothing, but I am interested in following this thread. Good luck.

Being PCP, you might have more luck surfing through the PCP/Darkside Gate. The moderators will likely move it there to get you more views too.

My sortie stopped cycling today. Tried loosening the mags as well as lubing the action to no avail. It cycled fine for a 200 to 300 shots. Not sure what’s up. Gives new meaning to break in period.

What pellets have you been using? Is there any chance that the magazines have lead shavings in them.
You could buy some new magazines from fieldsupply, they are cheap enough.
It’s frustrating when the magazine is the point of failure. Though it can be rewarding to troubleshoot those magazine issues.

Sortie back in action! Cycled 5 pellets anyway. Wasn’t the mags or pellets. With a little help from Thane, I took off the shroud and worked on the parts around the barrel. Fingers crossed it holds up.

Sortie is out of action again. The metal post that connects the blowback in the barrel to the gearage in the action had become unthreaded so I had glued it/thread locked it. Now the post snapped off. There’s enough of the thread end left (about 1/16th an inch) to glue, which I did, and am letting it sit for 24 hrs with fingers crossed.
At worst, it will end up as a non-semi-auto pistol, but that is of course not the intention behind the purchase.
Thane’s Sortie had plastic where the breakage occurred on mine. He had threading issues on the radar he advised me of. My recently purcahased Sortie has a metal rather than a plastic piece, but threading is an issue with the metal parts.

I hope you won’t have too many more challenges with this sortie, it is good that you’ve already fixed it, let’s hope you’re back up and running soon.

I have given up on the semi-automatic function of the Sortie. Even with liquid weld rated at 5000+ psi strength, the post won’t hold.
That being said, with the semi-auto parts removed from the barrel, there is plenty of room to build my own shroud and quiet this puppy down. I have some black pleather with a webbed back that likely will absorb a lot of sound. I’ve read about someone using felt here on gta. Any suggestions?

Man, that's a bummer. I have two Sortie's and no problems out of either. My last one took some breaking in, around 40/50 pellets, to start cycling properly, now both run like sewing machines. Have a green laser on one, and a red dot on the other. Good for taking care of close range stuff, 20/30 yards.

Emptied of the cycling parts around the barrel, the curlers, shimmy scraps, and bit of pleather over the air holes are settling in for a quieter report.

The h&n silver points are the pellet I’ve been enjoying lately. They cycle well (albeit manually) and I’m testing out the accuracy at 13 yds. What pellets have you been using?

Dialed back the hammer spring. The sweet spot seems to be between 175 and 75 bar generating between 10 and 11 fpe over a little more than 2 mags.
Getting fliers with silver points and crow mags while having a blast. Shame about the semi auto action breaking though building a shroud was tinkering fun learning experience. Barracudas on the way to try. Smaller length pellets weren’t cycling as well.

I think I found the sweet spot for 3 mags of FTT .177 (42 shots).
Like Thane, I had been finding better shot efficiency and power in the 175 down to 75 bar range (Thane’s findings on his Sortie might have been a little lower). Just shy of 225 bar I am getting 636fps and by shy of 75 bar I am back around the same by shot 42.
I adjusted the hammer spring to get 671fps at 200bar and ended up with better efficiency at the higher bar as well. Some graphs bob and loyd posted got me thinking.
Haven’t run a full 42 shot string since the last adjustment. If I can get a scope on it I am going to do some accuracy testing with the FTTs next.

Haven’t run a 42 shot string over the Chrono, that is. I have been plinking through 3 mags straight (42 shots) through this latest discovery except for a shot over the Chrono at 225 200 150 100 etc.
