What year is this 397?

i bought a used 397 last summer only because it seemed like a good deal and it's been sitting in its case since.  i don't believe it's that old, maybe 5 - 7 years?  i looked at the crosman site but couldn't find any info on dates.


i don't know much about pumpers.  i had a '79 blue streak some years ago but only shot it 1/2 dozen times before selling it.



here is the serial # 416N01006 it has a steel trigger and pot metal guard.  the barrel is brass as is the tube under it.

The first 2-3 numbers of the serial number of crosman made guns after 1975 are the date code. Looks like April 2016.

ok, great!  i bought it for $50 with the williams peep and a soft side case.  it shot fine when i inspected it, but then arriving home it wouldn't hold air.  i installed new seals and all is good.  if it wasn't so loud i'd shoot it.  i'll probably send it to my grandson when he's strong enough to pump it.  they have lots of room at their place and neighbors who shoot pbs so a little 'pop' from an airgun won't even be noticed.

Bummer than you had to reseal it. Looks like it is nice though, and considering all the new ones use a terrible plastic stock I'd say it was worth it. You can make it quiet if you want. there are 1/2 20 moderator adapters available for it.

the reseal, iirc, was only $15 and took about an hour.   one of these days i'll chrony it and start finding that "right" pellet for it.

They're only loud if you pump it 8 times, only need 4 or so for plinking.
