New R7-Scope or Irons?

I have a new R7 coming soon and I was wondering how many scope theirs or use irons? It will be used for backyard plinking,paper targets and occasional small pest control. Max range about 25 yards. I have a 397 with Williams peep sight and a Daisy 853 and do okay with them. I'm 66 and really don't see my eyes getting better. I would shoot it a while with the stock sights before doing anything, TIA

I struggled with the same question and kept swapping between the stock irons, a Williams peep and a 3-9x scope. I can get much smaller groups, have shot some unbelievable groups at 50 yards with it, but I like to do standing off-hand shooting. I personally shoot much better with the peep sight offhand, I have too much wobble with a scope, even on 3x. I really not so good with the stock sights, I'm only 46 but my eyes just won't focus on that front sight without the peep. I'm going to try a drop of white paint to try to keep from losing it.

With that being said, I can still get under 1/2" easily if shooting while seating with the peep at 25 yards, and about the same as that if standing. If the weather behaves (no wind) I add 65 clicks to the sight and shoot it at 50 yards, my smallest group so far has been right at 1". So long as you can focus on the front sight, that's really all that matters.

Peep or a small scope.  A Hawke or UTG 2-7 would be a nice match.  My R7 has a peep sight off a 10 meter rifle on it, and I like it.  I keep getting the urge to order another and scope it though....

Mine....(actually my grandsons) HW30 wears a Hawke 4x AO Vantage mil-dot.  Less than $100. And there's another Beeman R7 coming for my other grandson at his birthday.

My girlfriend saw me eyeballing an R7 .20 and for our 2 year anniversary, handed me a card with a note inside that said while it would be late, she wanted to buy me the rifle and has been saving for it. When we finally order it, I'll also be ordering a Hawke Airmax 2-7x32 AO to sit on top of it.

I don't have scopes on mine but it's because when I pull them out I "plink" with the open sights which are quite nice for 25 yards.  But if I had only ONE R7 and really wanted to enjoy it I'd put a scope on it, even a straight 4X from Weirauch (China but nice glass).

You are gonna really enjoy the R7. Mine wears a hawke Airmax 3x7 . Also I highly recommend you send it to John in PA and have him give it a tune. It makes a good rifle great.

R7 and a Hawke Airmax 2-7x scope is an ideal combination.

I am owning a Diana Panther 21, a similar airgun compared with the r7 and I love shooting it with open sights. Even though my eyes are getting less as well.

Using peepsights or open sights comes really down to personal preference. I prefer open sights.

If.... you go for a scope... I definitely can recommend the 2-7x32 AMX !!! I have one on my CZ200 and on 7x it is still easy to see the pellet impact at 45 yards. Skip the Vantage, go Airmax if you go scope.

I have A HW30 in 22 with a Williams rear Peep sight and HW fiber optic front, my daughter has a R7 in 177 with a bug buster. Shooting off hand I prefer iron sights, shooting from a bench and a rest I prefer a scope hope that helps

I decided on the 2-7 Hawke scope. With the delays at Pyramyd it looks like I'll get the scope and mount before the rifle.

Which Williams peep works best on the R7/HW30S, the fp-ag or fp-gr if you' re using the globe front that comes with it?

I don't know which of the Williams sights will work with the globe sight used on the current R7, but with the early R7-R25 that used the old type globe with non replaceable blade, FP-AG works. If you lust after a FWB 300, place a diopter sight (FWB, Anschutz, etc.) on your R7: so accurate you can almost do as well at 10m as the FWB!

I use the FP-AG (high line of sight) on my HW30S with the factory globe and it works great. As to scope or irons, I solved that problem by having two HW30S rifles, one with the above peep and one with a 2-7x scope. I use the peep sight version mostly indoors in the winter, where I can control the lighting. The scoped HW30S, which is the laminate version, gets the most use, because I can use it indoors and, especially, outdoors at our backyard range. Our backyard range is surrounded by our thick north woods on all sides and gets a lot of shadows. Most of the tine you need a scope just to see the target.
