I have found such seals last much longer by introducing a minimum of lube, or in some cases no lube at all.Provided a hint of STP or Krytox is added to the seal to aid assembly, the seal needs no more and anything further merely adds to detonation issues that we are seeing above.A hint of moly is all that is required on the opposite end of the piston. From here we can then select the best pellets to reduce slam to a minimum. As an interesting side note, i have come across numerous guns which just do not seal properly at the breech, giving rise to slam and piston seal damage. Feinwerkbau Sports were notorious for slight barrel opening at the breech at the moment of firing. It was barely a few Thou and not noticeable but due to a weaker lock up design would just take pressure off the O ring breech seal for a micro second and cause the problems.I noticed that guns with good heavy lock ups and using a single wrap of Floss behind the O ring gave zero gas loss and longer lasting piston heads, provided lube was kept down.Interesting post guys.
